wow how sad to see so many homes just sit empty and so many good people black and white with out hope .
Makes me sad, it is even worse in person. We have just about stop going down town. My brother-inlaw sold his bld. this year, off of cass ave. He was the last of the family to leave. Still good people living in the city, hope things get better for them.
So tired of all the 'dead city' messages. Maybe a pertinent message 10 years ago. It's not news. It's time to move forward. The city is right-sizing its footprint. Perhaps someone will do a short about the positive things happening.... OH WAIT, that just happened and it was on the front page of the Wall Street Journal. Time to look forward folks. And considering the passion that most here feel for the cars of times-past, and the history of our country, it's EXTREMELY pertinent to us. hudson48...if you wouldn't have posted the link, I wouldn't have seen this documentary. I have always intended to visit Detroit but was a bit disheartened when I watched that documentary.Now with your update I see many positives that are happening and it looks like I would need more time when visiting than I first thought.
Having been to the Detroit autorama a couple of times ,the city , the people and the history facinate me, I am just sorry I didnt get to see more of it, I would love to be driven around and see the historical sights by a resident who knows the history I hope to be able to go back one day...
Being a ex-firefighter, my fire buddies from out of town always want to come and stay at my house for their vacation, go to Detroit, chase fire, visit old stations, and see the sights. They are from DC, N.Y city, and Philly. They also all agree that there is no other place like Detroit. They vacation in Detroit, not many people can say that (or would even consider it) The city has a lot to offer. The turn around would com e alot quicker if the corruption weren't so bad. Todd.
Vacationed in Detroit four years ago. Wife and grandson. The Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, toured the F150 plant and a first class zoo. Had a ball. More people should give it a try. Hope Dave Bing, the mayor, is wildly successful. Would love to visit for the Woodward Cruise, it is on my bucket list.

Yep. Dwelling on past misfortune can be of little value. I was born in the aftermath of the great depression. A lot of people used that circumstance as a crutch, as an excuse for not looking for ways to change their lives. They are still complaining.

I have been in Detroit for almost twenty years. I love it. I have to admit, the seafood is not like the east and I miss the mountains. Lot's of stuff to do though. Music. Great restaurants and bars. Festivals almost every weekend. Plus you can usually can find a great a machine shop, parts store, interior, metalworking craftsman, painter, or chrome shop nearby. Back east, it generally meant you were going to drive to pick up your project. Vintageride
Hopefully Bing will clean up the coruption that has plauged Detroit since Coleman Young. Its fun to go look around there and see whats left of Detroit but I don't do it without a clip full of hollowpoints.
