An idea that might be beneficial to all of us......How about a thread of hot rodders all over the country who are available to help stranded, broken down, and otherwise immobile fellow hot rodders? For example, I am located in SW Nebraaska about 25 miles from NE Colorado. Just 20 miles south of I-80. A major east=west highway. If I was contacted by someone in trouble within, oh say, a couple hundred miles, I'd load up my tools and trailer and do all I could to rescue them. If they needed to be trailered back to my shop, VERY well equipped, so be it. And between me, my fellow rodders, and the owner, we can fix damn near anything. The best part...no charge unless parts and/or supplies are needed. Plus a safe place to store the car for major issues. I'd be happy organize a directory of you who are willing to join up. Hey, it could be you on the side of the road with a broken framilator. Peace of mind!! Wadda ya think? Bill flatheadkid@yahoo.com
we don't need that thread.all one needs is to send an sos out and they have help in a heartbeat.this has been succesful time and time again. if you ever break down, just ask a hamber.............
I know a few years back the idea came up and I think certain regions posted who they where and where they were if they were willing to help. I know the Pacific NW area did it and I'm sure others too. The other thought is to use the HAMB Social Groups as a network.
it's been done before. i think it was called the hamb pages. you had to join(be available to help in your area) in order to recieve a copy. denise organized it, i think.
I'm with flatheadguy.I carry my laptop and my cell Phone will go online but what about the guys who don't or can't take all that with them. How are you going to send a SOS to the HAMB from a service station or the side of the road. I also travel with friends who would think I was nuts if I jumped in their car for trip with my laptop. NSRA has a "Fellow Pages" system and when I was member I helped several stranded Street Rodders. I think its a workable idea.
Yes it did. Those that sent in their info got the HAMB Helper Pages in return. V2 is being worked on right now and again will be sent via email to those that sent their info. If anyone is not in the HAMB Helper pages all you need is one HAMB person's phone number in your cell phone, call that person when you break down with your location and your contact number and ask them to put a help needed post on the HAMB. Trust me within minutes you will have calls from those that might be able to help or that can lead you in the right direction for help in the area.
I'd put in my name and number as well, Although I am so far south in texas I dont think there are many hambers south of me.
Add me to the List: My shop doors are always open for my fellow HAMBers anytime they need it... I'm just 2 miles off I-24, Exit 7 in Paducah, KY... If we can't fix it here...it can't be fixed! RUSTAHAULIC (Chris) 270-933-0101, 24/7
So all I have to do is dump my car along a road near you and you will come pick it up and fix it labor free? How can I loose! NSRA has been doing this for years. It’s called their Fellow Pages. Comes in real handy when traveling but I never have had to use it but have helped others.
Well I sent everything in. After a while I asked you about it and was told that things were stalled and never did get a copy.
this is a link I always look at in addition to the HAMB: http://www.hotrodsandcl***ics.net/roddershelpingrodders/rhr.htm
a lot of people have phones with internet on them now, booking marking the page on the hamb-o-dex would be a really good idea. just my 2 cents.
anybody remember one of the years past hot rod power tours where they replaced the guys transmission? thats this idea in action.
Like my 3 year old grand daughter says... "That'd be a GOOD idea, Poppy" I've got tons of tools, plenty of room, and the best thing of all... plenty of friends. What's the next step?
Thanks for the positive replies. And, the negative replies are also gratefully received. What I envision is a central point where you can post your name, location and phone number. This central point is contacted when you are driving....say, from Boston to Detroit. You e-mail the "moderator" (central point) and get a list of names and phone numbers along your route that are willing to help. No, not for oil changes or anything else that doesn't park you on the side of the road. Maybe a wheel bearing failure. Or a blown head gasket. One of our samaritans will show up either with the part or with a trailer and do all they can to help. If they have a shop, excellent. Shop space, use of tools, their experience and skill, and coffee or beer. Make a new friend. Help out a fellow rodder and you both have met a new friend. No charge for help. Yes, you will probably pay for parts and materials. If you want to do this to help those break down guys, use my e-mail and I'll keep track of who you are, where you are and what skills - equipment you have. If you are planning a trip, contact me withstarting point, route and destination and I'll see who is out there and send it to you...just in case. Bill flatheadguy@yahoo.com
If Denise (hotrodladycruiser) is on it, consider it will be accomplished with all the bells and whistles. Hope she keeps us informed as to the progress and finished product. With that said I don't see any need for a duplicate effort. Frank
This is a great thread and an even better idea! Yep,N$RA has this sorta thing and you're listed if you're a member... We all know the HAMB is waaaay better and cooler, don't we? I'd like to be included and our club (WMSRA) is glad to help a fellow HAMBer or hot rodder in need.
some of us still dont use that though (me included!) but I know when I go to make a long distance trip, I always check out who is in the area- just in case...
years ago i remember going on the road and if we had a problem we located one of 2 things: auto parts or a church. always help in those 2 places.
I got the original HAMB Pages, printed them out & put them in a small binder that I carry around under the seat of my car. I had it with me when we went to Joplin for the HAMB Drags. Denise does what she says she'll do, and does it in a spectacular fashion. I don't see any need for duplication of the effort. Maybe there's something in the way of help we could do to update V2. Thanks, Denise, for all your hard work. It is definitely appreciated.
