I'm looking to start making shift knobs and other litle hot rod monsters I make to sell. Need resin casting*****. Who sells what I need? what kinds do you recomend? any info would help. My neighbor makes teeth and we messed around with his casting stuff but I wasnt to impressed with the results It lost alot of detail
We always liked Synair products, and used Por-A-Kast for many years...a 50/50 A+B mixture that released extremely well from molds, and cured fast......
Their molding line (Por-a-Mold) is also a 50/50 mix and comes in different durometers....they range from extremely soft for detailed casting to hard for bulkier masses.....if you are casting shift knobs, a soft to medium mold should get you through dozens of castings, with proper curing and the use of appropriate mold releases.... One old trick to help draw air bubbles out is to dust your mold with baby powder after spraying mold release..Synair's resin usually cured relatively bubble-free when hand-turned or spun....
We also use a DA sander without the paper on the outside of the mold for about 30 seconds before the resin sets up to get the bubbles out.
