what/where is the resistor on a 64 ranchero w/260? someone suggested it is a resistor wire but my wiring has been so butchered I can't find. does it have to be a specific length gauge or any resistor wire? vehicle is a ***** to start but then will restart w/o issue until next am. any thoughts? have replaced points and condenser, plug wires and coil, rebuilt carb. driving this old man nuts. has been quite a while since I was on HAMB and can't find search function. as always thanx for your input. larry
Run a new wire from the switch to the coil and put a inline resistor in between the 2 ,also make sure you have the byp*** wire from the solenoid to the coil for full voltage during starting should be the one with the I on the solenoid
don't know much about that car , but according to the O'Reilly website the ballast resister is a wire http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/s...model=Ranchero&vi=1334180&year=1964&make=Ford i'm sure someone will come along and disagree and give us the correct answer
It's the pink wire. I'd just get a non-resistor ignition coil and run a new 12 V line from the ignition switch.
As doinbad suggested-best to get back to basics and make sure it is all wired right. Function of resistance- either wire or resistor- is to run the coil on approx 8 volts normally ( for good point life ) with a byp*** to provide 12 volts when starting ( run from starter) . Much of this wiring gets screwed up as cars are modified. That said- your cold start problem doesn't sound like it is connected to the resister to me... Make sure you have the wire from the started to provide 12 volts on starting.... Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
