Wow…that is shocking and sad to say the least. :( I never met Jim although interacted with him here quite a bit it seemed. He will definitely be missed here and even more by his close friends and family. Praying for comfort for them in this time of loss.

Wow, It saddens me to hear this. I always enjoyed talking to him at the CCR and will miss his presence there in the future.
Our custom car family is small enough as it is, the CCR is going to have a different vibe with so many leaving us.
    Rest in peace Jim

Dam..dam. What a gut punch. Condolences to his family. I was fortunate enough to meet and chat with him at the Custom Car Revival last year. He was very personable and a fountain of information. Ya the Caprice was there and parked out front. I’m glad I got to see it. He gonna be missed. Snowman ⛄️

Damn, this sucks. I've known Jim for years and went to his club's show in Red Oak since I was born. We didn't really get to know each other well till the last couple years, he was always supportive and loved to joke about taking me to get gas once when I ran out. It was cool to hear him say that I Inspired him to drive his car on longer trips. I met him in Indy and had a great chat about his adventures to get there.
I luckily had some good times chatting with him while he put in an interior for my dad's truck last winter, and then again when Dad had him put a headliner in his bug.
Always the helpful guy, the last post on my T thread, (to which he commented often) was about my 'interior' I had put in my T, which if you know Jim, you know he loved the pattern.
    .
    RIP buddy.

Wow, what an awful way to start my day. If you were half the man in life as you were here on the HAMB, heaven awaits you with open arms. God speed sir!

  9. Wow, that last paragraph from our discussion following Salina was hard to read today @OG lil E...reads a whole lot different today than it did a couple months ago. True none the less. Cherish the days...they are short.

Condolences to the Stanley family and friends in Jim's sudden passing. Far to young indeed. I have been following his Custom Project since since he started it...I am saddened that his dream will not be realized...and yes he knew his Customs. May he rest in peace. 'Praise the lowered' indeed...

Thanks for sharing this loss to the Community @Moriarity...

Just read his post in the battery thread. I believe he posted that yesterday. Wow.
We aren't promised anything, are we?
    Too young, too soon.

I could not believe this when I saw it earlier today. Loved every minute of our discussions at KKOA Salina. He was one of the nicest individuals you would hope to ever meet! RIP Jim!

I first saw Jim’s Chevy at a show in Coralville Ia in 1990. It definitely stood out in a sea of street rods and muscle cars.
I actually didn’t get to meet him until about 4 years ago. I was attending a show at the I29 dragway. Our cars definitely stood out in a sea of tuner cars and late model muscle. He came up to me and introduced himself and his daughter and we had a laugh that our cars and usdidn’t belong there.
I followed along here as he told his tales of gathering parts for his Plymouth and showed his direction for it. He had an eye for the right parts.

Condolences to his family and friends!

I received a PM from Jims brothers girlfriend, she wanted me to let everyone here know that the family is very impressed with the stories of how Jim touched peoples lives here. She also sent along this pic of Jim with info for donations if anyone here is interested in helping jimvenmo.png

A friend from Shenandoah IA called me last evening with this sad news. He told me he did not know what happened but that his wife had found him on the floor. Pretty sure he said the bathroom. Did he slip and fall? or have a medical issue? I don't know.

It was so hard to have to tell a small group of Kustom guys and gals here that awful news. I did that in a private conversation last evening. THANK YOU Mark @Moriarity for this post on the main board. I'm bawling like a baby reading all the HAMBer's kind words about Jim. It's been a rough day for me.

I feel like I've known Jim my entire life, but I only met him in 2001. At a swap meet, go figure. The first time I met him, 9/11 had just happened, I had family members scheduled to fly out of Logan (Boston) that day. Thankfully, the skies were closed before they took off. However, the "what if" made me ponder the importance of life over things. I decided to sell a lot of Mercury stuff I had collected. Took a carload of it to the Aksarben swap meet in Oct 2001.

Along comes Jim, he inquires on some stuff, we talk a bit, I think he bought something, maybe he came back to get my name in case I had stuff left over at end of day. Pretty basic swap meet transaction that I really didn't give a lot of thought too.

Fast forward to 2005 or 2006 whenever KKOA came to Salina with the Spectacular. I drove the same car I had at the 2001 swap meet. Here comes this guy up to me and proceeds to tell me who I am, where I worked, what my interests in cars was... and on and on. More than I knew about myself, really.

Yep, its Jim. And as many of you are too familiar, he could open that steel trap mind of his on LOTS of topics. Cars, yep, shows, yep, changes made to cars over the years, yep, change of owners, yep, yep and yep.

But Jim's forte was people. That's what we will miss the most about him. As @OG lil E recalled in his closing thoughts on the Salina show 2023, It's not so much about the cars, its about the People.

I'll be keeping the people closest to Jim in my thoughts, praying that his Family may find some comfort knowing what a positive impact he had on so many people.

Here's a pic that Paul @povertyflats posted a few years back.

  23. I'm at a loss for words. We had a great visit walking around the Greenfield swap meet in early September, discussing what's been going on with the Eastern Nebraska-Western Iowa Car Council and Rocky Manginelli Lincoln swap meet, the health of one of our Car Council friends (who passed away just a week later), and never in my wildest dreams was I expecting to see this happen. I can't remember not knowing Jim or his dad and his 51 Victoria 'sled since the early 80s, joking with him at Car Council meetings in Omaha and Lincoln or running into him at some small town Car show or a swap meet. Yep, tomorrow isn't promised (I've gotten too many notices like this over the past few months for friends and family). But we can always be kind to each other, share our knowledge and enthusiasm for what we're passionate about, and enjoy the time we have on this mortal coil. We'll deeply miss you, Jim. Until our paths cross again...

Wow, sorry to read this, my online conversations with Jim, centered around his part of Iowa, near Clarinda, where my parents grew up. He struck me as a man happy with life in his small town, that would make many of us envious. R.I.P. Jim.

Great pic, John B. So true about him not getting the picture thing. To Jim, the show was never about him or his car. He'd park it and then make the rounds. You would never see him in a lawn chair by his car ... always out making connections with others. I don't think I've ever known anyone else like him.

Love it❤️ I’m his daughter! He always went to his car shows and swap meets while she stayed back home!
Dad was a know it all when it came to cars! We would be driving down the interstate and he could tell me everything about an old car going 70mph… how? I don’t know! But he knew it all! That car has been through it ALL with him! High school, proms, college, his wedding, hauling my brother, mom, and I around, my brother’s proms, my proms, and now we will keep his beautiful car forever! It is going nowhere! Funny thing… he would let ANYONE drive his car, yes… even my prom dates throughout high school!
