Not a real new idea, they've been trying to get this similar deal going for a couple of years.

  12. Did Riffels use the same body on several different chassis throughout the years? I keep noticing that beltline getting shorter as the #55 brand becomes a fullout 70's supermodified.

  13. Yep Funny thing was the body kept shrinking. Some composite pieces even showed up >>>>.

Does anyone recognize this power steering unit. It's in my 80's upright super and the lower end looks like a Schroeder, but there is no name or numbers on it. The upper part (torque generator) is not working and needs to be rebuilt, but I want to know the make if possible. Thanks......... Dash-StGear.JPG

That looks just like the power assist i used on a Schroeder box in the 80's. They work great when , well, when they work. No problems with mine however. I have a Lee today, and it feels the same.

Any way, Schroeder should know where you can send those, or get a rebuild kit.

Thanks Brian26. I'll give Schroeder a call. I've got everything else done, but can't drive it. Bummer..........Mike

  24. Since I went to the cast iron Lee/profile steering boxes, I haven't had a lick of trouble.

Like I said about the Schroeder power assist- They were great, but their reputation from what I heard was they went out, when they felt like it.

I know it sucks to not have a steering gear that works. For some reason, I found getting one on a car was the biggest challenge -except for a driveline setup on a 100" car.

Is that a Luther Brewer built car?

No. It was built by a guy to race dirt at Butler Speedway in Quincy, Mich. when they ran supers. It had a chopped off Edmunds type tail, but I wanted the Champ car tail to make it look better. My drive line was quite simple since it runs a TCI type Powerglide. The nerf bars & nose bar are made from 1-1/4" x 1/4" wall tubing. Evidently he didn't want to bend them up.
