Looks good, the only advice I would give is to make sure you clean up the old side before you weld, you will get a better weld and wont have rust in the weld itself.

Glad to see that you are back on the project, I have been looking over your build for some time, it's inspiring. Its just what I need to be doing.

It´s a lot of work, but fun for me. :D

Yesterday I welded the inner structure of the cab under the gas tank together. Cutted it out of the cab before and sandblasted it. So it´s ready to take place in the cab after I finished the metalwork on the cab.

Also I have to reproduce the L-profiles of the bed to get the bed sides mounted. There was only one left of the originals.
    So stay tuned.

The flathead is in the machine shop now.

I´ve got one question to all the F1 owners.

Did I mount the cross sills of the bed correctly? Or did I mount them upside-down?

    Thanks in advance.

If I really mounted them upside-down, why is the step on the left and the right now on top. If I would flip the cross sill, the step will be upside-down.

I bought the bed parts from LMC.

The rails are correct as shown, upright to collect water and rust. I have 3 F-1's , all are as per your pics.
    Nice work by the way
there may be pics in my profile.

@charleyw: Thank you for the pic. The rail on the left and on the right is it welded to the cross sills or is it bolted?
The bedsides gets welded or bolted to these two rails?

    Oldkustoms,
The intermediate ones are spot welded to the side rails. The front and rear are riveted. I'll probably weld them all.
The bedsides on mine were riveted. I drilled them out to clean the parts up. I'll probably use stainless ****on heads to re attach them. All but 2 per side (I think) will be hidden by the fenders. Hope this helps, if you need any pics just let me know.

    Thanks for your answer.

Can you tell me the dimension of the holes were the side bed is mounted to the side rail?
The distance from hole to hole an where the holes are located on the side bed, because my side beds are undrilled.

    Thanks in advance.

^^^^That's wild, mine have not been apart and they're flange up. My 48 and 49 are the same. Head scratcher? Must not matter too much.

    That´s really a head scratcher.

If I really mounted it upside down it technically not possible to flib them, because of the notch on the left and right side of the sills where the side rails will step in.

I am looking at the little square plate. On my Chevy it has those to give the crossmember a flat mounting point for the rubber pads, which is why I thought they were upside down, well that and the fact that water and crud would collect. Also those Mar-k install instructions and they show them with the open end down. Hmm.

Well, here's the dimensions on my side rails as near as I can measure.
I left my cad laptop at work so it's a crude sketch. Let me know if you need anything else.
As far as the bed crossmembers, there appears to be lots of variables in manufacture. One of those things that make you go Hmmm.........
I doubt this debate gets as heated as radials vs. bias plys though. LOL

Thank you so much. So I can start to fabricate the side rails and mount the bed sides.
