planejunk: A work of advice to you. Introduce yourself first on this section of the HAMB and tell everyone a little about yourself and then ask for advice and help other wise no one is going to talk to you. This section is ONLY FOR INTRODUCTIONS.
Introduction, Well, I'm turning 68 and I guess it is kinda late to start a car. But, I had a 65 GTO coupe in 65 when I was 20, it was red and equipped like this one. Tripower, M-21, 390 gears. A lot of fun for sure. Many street races in Las Vegas, Nevada. With 390 gears I would just jump ahead of most ALL the other stock street muscle cars and second gear was the same and I would usually be a couple cars ahead and I would just shut it down. I didn't want to go fast just quick. I had a 70 Corvette roadster and it had a 350/350, M-22. I did the body work on this one, it was a mess. I mainly like the road race type racing but did not get on a real track myself but one time to time race other Corvettes. I beat them all but one, a race ready (mine was stock) 396 65 roadster, that 65 was really a nice Corvette. I was the body man in a paint and restoration shop located in lake Havasu City, AZ for about two years. Before that I did a couple of Corvettes at home, body work mostly and putting parts back on. The shop was a small shop but we were always busy. We did a lot of nice cars. I have been a Barber since 1964 and do it today, old Barbers don't die. we FADE away. Sorry for that. My son is financing the restoration of the GTO and a 67 RS Camaro he bought to restore at the same time. Seeing as how I did a few 67 Camaros he asked me to do his. I said, not likely I'd be doing it all anymore. I said I would do the final sanding and prep for the paint. When we leave, the painter can redo it if I am not as good as I was. Hehehehe. We'll have all the hard body work and frame work done by people that know what they are doing. I'll do the easy stuff. I have kids, grand-kids and a great granddaughter. You can be a young grandpa but not a young great grandpa. I think I will find new aches, Hehehe. When I was 16 my ride was a 1936 Ford pickup, it was a ice cream truck and the body was perfect. It had a 49 Merc Flathead with a 4 BBL. It was a nice truck, I paid $250 on payments. I then traded it for a 1941 Chevy Business coupe (no back seat) I would put my 9 foot surf board in the trunk and shut the trunk. Loved it. I had my bed in there to. Memories. One nice tidbit for history. A friend on mine bought one of the first 1964 442's in 1964. We went to my parents house in Oceanside, California to visit. We went to the NEW Carlsbad Raceway on Saturday to see it. A big NHRA Finals race was to be their that Sunday. They asked my friend if he would run his new 442 through the lights to check them out and see how the new 442 ran. He broke the C stock NHRA record through the mufflers on the 1st and only p***. They said come out Sunday and he could get the record. That night he spun a bearing and he never got the chance to do the race. I am looking forward to doing these cars with my son we are going to have a lot of fun I am sure. We are looking for a driver till our cars are done, fix it up a little and go enjoy the meets. I hate going to collector cars get togethers in a Toyota truck. As nice as it is, it ain't a cl***ic muscle car. I hope this was not to long. There are many other stories to tell, as you guys have great stories to tell to I am sure. updates on the restorations with pics will come later if anyone is interested. I'm looking forward to being here. Keep me on track. Jim
