It’s very hard to find new rotor and caps for old mallory flat top distributors. What have you guys done. I do have access to a sandblasted that has gl*** bead media. I don’t want to ruin the look of the plastic. But I’m not sure of any other way to restoring these parts. What have you guys done.

I tried. Don’t see anything that’s correct or for less than $200

I have buffed the caps for a couple of old Mallory Model A distributors, used the three different wheels and rouge I had for polishing stainless, turned out looking almost like a new cap. I have a bead cabinet and it would ruin the look of the cap. I wouldn't worry about how the rotor looked as long as it didn't track.

Yea. The rotor I’m not worried about

The carbon brush with the spring from Mallory two piece caps is no longer available from anybody I found. The 37-41 ford coil brush looks similar, anybody tried that?

I buy old Mallory distributors at swap meets if they have good looking caps and rotors. Bonus if there is a big br*** condensor on there too. I can usually find them for around $40 complete. Doesn't matter what car they fit, the 8 cyl caps are all the same. You do go to swap meets, doncha?

As for your original question, I would wipe them down with lacquer thinner to clean the gunk, and take a screwdriver to s****e the corrosion off the contacts. Any more than that I wouldn't do.
