A friend of mine is restoring the 1953 Oldsmobile Convertible owned by Ralph Ferks back in the early 60's. The Tailights are from a 1958 Mercury Parklane. That is the only model that had them. He is in need of 2 sets of the rings for these lights. Here is a pic. Please PM me if you can help us out. BB
Ya I think pics would make us wanna help you more haha. My friend just junked a 57 but I'll keep my eye out.
Isn't that the one that was built by Dave Puhl's "House of Customs" that was known as the "Startling Starfire"??? If so, it's sure nice that someone is trying to revive it. It's a really cool car. I believe there was some photo's from back in the day of it on another post awhile back.
Yep that's the one. Rikster has some pics, I PM'd him and asked him to post them. Satan: Nope those won't work, Parklane only and only 58, that looks like a 59 to me. BB
That is really good news. Please keep us posted on its progress Here are some photos. (Photos from the **** "Fuzzy" Collection) And these shows the taillights a bit better
Bob - you might try Browns Exit 27 Salvage in Gardiner Maine. They are crushing their back 40 acres, and I haven't been there since March, but if memory serves they had a Merc like that with the tail lights intact. If it hasn't been crushed, I'm sure you could get them for a song. If it does work out and you need a Helping HAMB to pull it for you, I got your back. Their number is (207) 582-7002. There is an old man who's not too knowledgeable about the inventory who might answer the phone, but his son is a lot more Saavy about what he's got in stock. I think it was a pink 4-door if that helps jog some memories. Good luck.
Man that is beautiful! Love the interior! That dash is awesome. I know that's not everyone's style, but I sure love it.
Damn.. there was a pair of those on Ebay about 3-4 months ago. The whole setup. Beautiful chrome. They had a $200 starting bid and never even got bid on. I emailed the seller trying to buy them after the auction and he never replied back and I don't have the info any more. Don't know if you can search completed auctions on ebay, but seems to me they didn't call them Mercury or anything like that. Something more like "custom" or "rat rod" tailights.
G: Thanks for the lead, unfortunatley it didn't work out. I talked to the son and he said that he never had a 58 Parklane, he does have a 57 4 door Turnpike Cruiser Station Wagon which is pink & white. BB
That is a magnificent car but please try to come up with a top that works. Those funky tops with the breezeway back gl*** didn't look good then and darn sure don't now.
Bob, whats the difference in those pieces from the Parklane and the other series? I have a parts illustration manual for 57-59 Mercs and it shows the same pieces for all cars in 58. if that the case i have a set I pulled off a acar last week.
Damn Bob - Sorry about that ... That's weird though, cuz that was definitely NOT a station wagon. I know because I was looking at it quite a bit and thinking of all the parts I could strip off it, and decided it would probably be easier to just fix it up as a nice moredoor driver. Oh well, sorry to get your hopes up.
That roof is so odd, the car itself is stunning, but that roof, it's like granny ******* on Carmen Electra. Good luck on your search Bob, you da man.
Guys were trying for something different, something unique, rather than the tried and true, always right, Carson-style tops. This type was one many used that then became the horrible standard for many customs. Sometimes a cl***ic design (the Carson) cannot be improved upon; this is one of those times.
The restored version will have the standard carson type top on it. A lot of us agree that the original top was not all that pretty. But as said above, it was the thing to do at the time. BB
I have a number of pics of the car when I had it in the late 70's. If, the restorer is interested in the pics for any reason, you know where to contact me.
