Brought the Bantam, wife and dog to a gathering at a local ***isted living facility today, sponsored by my local club. Not a lot of cars but a couple of standouts, the Ford wrecker and an absolutely gorgeous Eldo. Factory vinyl top. All really appreciated by the residents.
I also went to a car show at an ***isted living facility today. It was great to see the folks come out and see their faces light up at seeing the old cars. You just know it was one of the highlights of their year.
Nice cars, Great day. Lovin the p/u Bantam. That crank handle on the Holmes knocked out my buddy, one day. He came to at the hospital. When he learned that they had plans to s***ch up his cheek, he waited for the right moment. Nobody watching he slipped away, back to the scene, to finish his tow.
REALLY great idea!!!!........ Way better than a bunch of "no-nut'in" gen X'ers ax'en dumb question (or telling lies) surrounded by LOUD Hard rock music and outta control young'uns dragging their sticky fingers all over everthing while their folks giggle about "all these old car" parked around and ignoring Jr. & Becky.... (OMG!!!!!! I've turned into a HAMB'er!!) Sorry about the rant! 6sally6
It is a great idea. Listening to them enjoying remembrances of past experiences was great. And they fed us pasty and coffee. This was second month of doing it, trying to make it a monthly event, just hope some different cars show up. I'm good for 2-3 more without a repeat.
In my area a local car club has a car show every Spring at a Veterans Home. The vets love seeing the cars having the extra visitors to talk to. I have taken my dog and the vets enjoy petting her and having a pet around. Have heard some great stories!
Always nice to see car guys visiting the greatest generation. That's a very memorable day for these folks. Good on ya all, and good karma to you. A sobering thought; but hopefully the next generation of Hot Rodders will bring their cars out to visit some of us when we're living our last chapter in "the home"...
Couple of times a year I gather up some old car mag's and the wife's old gardening mag's and drop them off at a local home .The staff said the residents just love getting something new to read and p*** the time away .The gentlemen bench race and the ladies garden .
My ex and I put on one of those years ago when with lived in MPLS, it is truly one of the coolest car shows you can EVER attend. So cool for the residents, the back seat stories from the lil blue haired ladies alone is worth the price of admission!
Ha, caught me. Actually Cragars all around, with moon caps on one side over the spokes. Haven't gotten around to making the clips for the other side. Here's what I did: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/cragar-coverup.1238908/
I’ve attended a few shows at a Veteran’s facility for the aged in the past. Needless to say the Vets were most appreciative and many had their own stories about the hot rods they had in the past. My experience was rewarding to spend some time with these men and women knowing how much they enjoyed the cars and some “fresh faces”.
