Are there any disc brake spindles that will fit on my 1950 Chevy hardtop coupe? I was told 70's pick-up truck spindles will work.Has anyone done this swap? Any advice will help and be very appreciated! Thanks
Did you look at your spindles, then look at a picture of a 70s truck spindle? You might wonder how that could possibly work, if you did. Normally for a disc brake swap on one of those cars, you'd use brackets that mount the caliper to the spindle, then use a rotor that fits with some different bearings, and usually a spacer between the spindle and the inner bearing (since it's a weird size spindle). some conversions require you to shorten the spindle. But if it's any comfort, I have a set of Wilwood discs on the front of my 62 Corvette, which has the same spindles as a 49-54 full size Chevy car. No modifications needed to the spindle to make them fit, but they are expensive brakes. And light, and work well. a thousand bucks...
the less expensive ones are about 500 if you're handy, you could make your own brackets, and figure out the rest of the pieces. The bearing adapters are not easy to make unless you have a lathe and some machining experience, and materials.
Speedway sells a kit or they sell parts by themselves. Buy the brackets and bearing adapters then get the rest locally. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Fron...ang-II-to-1949-54-Chevy-5-on-4-3-4,36437.html
Speedway, possibly even scarebird probably has something now. I put Scarebird on an old Plymouth in 2018ish and they were great. But scarebird shut down, sold and moved under new ownership so it’s not really the same company. Same products if available
