When I was 15 years old I bought a ratty old 51' Chevy and s****ed nickles together to restore it the best I could. I drove it for years but eventually, put it in storage where it suffered in neglect. I eventually suc***bed to pressure to sell it and was heartsick about it ever since. This year for my birthday my incredible wife found that very same 51' Chevy being restored in my home town and bought it back for me. I feel like a kid with a new old toy. I'm looking forward to gleaning your knowledge, expertise, and resources to make my ride what I always dreamed it would be. cheers, bd
The coolest. A couple days ago, she actually said, "I love having this old car in our yard." I had to look at her for a minute to realize she wasn't kidding...
Welcome. This is a great introduction, even though latest rumors say they are no longer important. And a heart waming story. Enjoy the forum and keep that wife!
Welcome and congratulations. I know just how you feel. Not too long ago I reacquired my first hot rod that I had nearly 40 years ago. Like an old relative coming back home.
Thanks everyone. Don, that's awesome. I know exactly what you mean. All the memories come flooding back.
That's also rare and great. Like a fool I traded my 55 Chevy wagon only to regret it even before the actual cars were swapped. Took three years of talking to the owner who lived in the same town to sell it back to me. I'd already traded the other car for the yellow 41 Ford pictured. We actually traded the wagon 150 miles away at Daytona Turkey Run. I know a 1955 Chevy station wagon is not the greatest car to own. But it had and has much sentimetal value. Munky Haus thanks for reminding us.
Welcome! Cool story! I've been lucky enough to hang onto one of my high school hoopties, I wish I had the others.
I know how you feel.... In highschool had a red with white vinyl top 63 galaxie 500. My first car. Drove it 230G miles and then had to let it go cause it didn't go with my job (appearances it was put). Heartbroken--then, at a car show saw one just like mine--felt attracted to it. Asked owner/restorer where he got it. Said mine like it had dent in dash where brothers head hit. He said this one had same and then asked about the numbers under dash. I recited them to him, they were for the combo lock to hold the hood down. IT WAS MY CAR! Tried to buy it..but could not afford the 25 grand he wanted. Have not see it since, but at least know someone loved it like I did.
