i have a 1952 Desoto gauge cluster (See Rolfe Coupe build). the temp gauge line is cut so i guess i'm getting a new Sunpro gauge to replace it (i'm glueing the Desoto gauge face on it though). i think the original oil pressure gauge works because I can get it to move when i pump air into it. the ampmeter gauge looks okay on the inside but corroded at the terminals. i'm hesitant to use it. Sunpro offers a ampmeter gauge that sweeps the opposite way that the desoto gauge does. Would it be safe\possible to hook the Sunpro gauge up backwards to make it sweep to match the Desoto gauge face? if its safe then i will probably get this kit. http://www.amazon.com/Sunpro-CP7995..._3?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1207918102&sr=8-3 i can sell the oil pressure gauge if the Desoto Gauge actually is accurate. There's no polarity on an ammeter. Hook it up backwards and it will work...backwards. Only the printing will be wrong
Fix your temp gauge for like $20. It's easy: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=228272&highlight=temp
i love this place. thanks narducci for the reassurance. I'm not an electrical guru but the light bulb went off on that one. i thought i'd run it by the HAMB first. this is great 4woody. never thought you could do that. it sure beats throwing away a good original gauge considering. i'll give it a go. if i screw up, i'll just buy another gauge and do my original plan.
An idea if you got some extra bucks. The amp gauge can probably be converted to a voltmeter with the original face. Try www.williamsons.com They also can fix the water temp gauge.
