Hey gang , just picked up a 1967 buick riviera. Beautiful car!Got some plans for it , but just getting my ducks in a row at the moment. My question is , are any of you running 14" reverse wheels on your 67 rivi? Any fitment issues?? Just trying to figure out if i can run 14s or if i will be on 15s .This car will be getting lowered and eventually hydraulics . Hope this ain't too new school for you all. Tried to upload a pic but some error is occurring. Thanks
I didn't own a 67 Buick Riviera, but I did own a 69 Buick Lasabra. My 69 had very open outer wheel wells, don't recall if the 67 was the same. After the outer wheel opening question, the width of the reversed wheel, and how deep the offset are the next important questions. The width of the tire thread (and the height of the tire sidewall) will also enter into the equation. The wider the tire tread width, the taller the tire sidewall, the wider the wheel width and the deeper the wheel offset, the better chance the tires are going to make contact with the wheel openings. The difference between the same tire with a 14" wheel is only a 1/2" shorter then the same tire on a 15" wheel. The availability of a chosen 14" tire may also come into play, 14" tires do not offer as many choices as they did years ago. Honestly, a short sidewall larger wheel/tire diameter option may offer better fits and option sizes then either a 14" or a 15" wheel. You left out way too much information to offer any solid answers.
If it has finned aluminum drums in it like '65's you will not get 14" wheels to fit. Even most 15" aluminum wheels will not fit. Then the next question is the availability of 14" tires in sizes that you need.
So the previous owner swapped out the front finned drums for a non finned unit to fit , 15x6 standard American racing rims with monster truck size tires. The rear appears to have fins but the same 15 standards fit.
If it has 15" wheels on it now, its very possible that 14" wheels won't clear the brake drums. It was a long time ago, but I think my 69 Buick had original 15" wheels.
The tire size you mention, suggests you are employing the Low rider trick of stretching tiny tires onto a wide rim? 14s likely won't fit on Buick brakes
100% stretching tiny tires onto a wide rim. This will be a traditional style lowrider . Was hoping someone on here had crossed this bridge with a 66 / 67 rivi
This 66 riviera low rider showed up in the spectator lot at the Custom car revival a number of years ago. real cool car. Here is a motor trend article on it when it had 14x8 reversed wires https://www.motortrend.com/vehicle-genres/1605-anthony-williams-p***ion-led-66-buick-riviera and a picture and here are a few pics from an isurance salvage auction for the same car, looks like it is overseas somewhere but you can see it with supremes and it clearly has finned drums on it. I think this works because the supremes have a backspace of 1 5/8 inches
Thanks !! Thats a good read and some hopefull information! That car is on an episode of car crazy i believe ? Saw it on you tube
Always liked the looks of those cars. A buddy in high school had one, was a great cruiser. Looks to be in nice condition.....any plans for custom paint?
It is in nice shape , interior is nice too. Better than the **** I usually drag home. I definitely want to paint it like an old lowrider. Got time to think about it , I got a Cadillac currently moving towards paint , taking up the only garage space I have.
