    Hi guys,

I really like the look of reversed wheels, but it seems like all people ever do to reversed wheels is chrome them. Did people do anything other than chrome them back in the day? I know you can always just paint them... white, black, red... what about a sort of gold metallic? Any other finish options? Bare metal? Could you put some sort of preservative on the bare metal to keep the low-gloss look? Pics would be cool. Thanks a lot.

  2. Some of them were painted.

There are problems with reversed wheels though.
Since they stick further out, the load on the wheel bearing is increased to a considerable degree.

They make the car harder to steer as well.

Best bet if you want the reversed wheel look is a wider wheel that's still centered over the kingpin etc.

I've heard that reversed puts extra load on the bearings and thats logical. I have run reversed wheels off and on since 1970 and have never had bearing problems. Who cares anyway? Bearings are cheap. I have reverses on my 39 Ford pickup. A standard rim with a 205R15 is a BITCH to steer. My reverses with 165R15 are a pleasure to drive. I use 165R15 on my 57 Chevy and 59 Ford Fairlane too.
