i've been looking all over for the old rippled flex pipe they used to sell at pep boys but no one seems to carry it any longer. i even had a conversation at the Grand National Roadster Show with the guys who helped build this bike. i think their SINNERS and they said they had a peice of the old pepboys stuff and built them and can no longer find anymore. here's a pic of the bike and pipes. if you can find some let me know man...

You cant find them anymore. I have a friend whos been searching since the eighties. He talked to one of the vendors at a show and they had there lake pipes made for them. They looked into it years ago and found one company that could do it and they were in england.
They told him the price was crazy and they had no demand so none ar ebeing made anymore.

  11. It's exspensive, but check out the goofy looking ribbed radiator hose. O'Rielys has it.

If a guy had a pipe threading machine. You could chuck it up and get it spinning. Then you could make a tool from a pipe cutter. Just replace the cutting blade with something that would just bend instead of cut. Maybe? Could work....

It really doesn't seem that hard to make a tool to do this just like Mckustoms thinks. Would it be worth it to make 1 or 2 cars worth? probably not. But if you found enough guys interested (and I'm talking have some money, not hopes and dreams) it would be worth the effort.

**** man. . .here's something to think about.

would take some time, but migth be the answer to making some of this. . . its kinda choppy in my head, but bear with me :D

take a long *** piece of pipe (schedule 40) how long? a foot longer than the farthest rib into the pipe you want to rib?

get yourself one of those pipe expanders. . . you know the ones you insert into the end of the pipe and hit with the impact gun and it makes a flare on the end?

OK, now extend the drive bolt with a length of round stock, weld over the nut end of the expander, weld another nut to the outter end of the rod, then thread it back into the expander on the end of the schedule 40 pipe. tac weld the expander onto the end of the pipe. now take some round stock, and roll it into the radius of the rib you intend to make in the pipe. hell for that matter, you could even run a bead of weld around the "jaws" on the expander, and then get your die grinder out and smooth/polish the bead till its the right shape you want.

slide this into the pipe, get it positioned right, then hit the gun.

    instant ribs on your pipes...

Ribbed for your pleasure Tucker. . . :D

PS... how much cooler would it be to have hand ribbed pipes??? its all about creative thinking

The guys who make flex tube for exhaust vibration decouplers might be able to help. Senior Automotive in Chicago area is one. I work in the exhaust industry, let me see what I can find out.

What kind of wall do you guys think you need and what materials? Most of the stuff I deal with is funky *** 316TI and **** like that (read $$$) but back in the old days (2000-2001ish) I had some out of 304 done for a project.

That stuff looks, like, totally tubular, man!

i got some at pepboys this summer. they used to carry it out front, i asked and it was in back now.

i was gonna use it to make belly burner pipes on my 50 chevy truck, but changed my mind about the project, so i have two lengths of the pipe just laying around, so if anybody needs it, i'll let it go, but keep in mind they're 6 feet long and kinda flexible, they'd have to be strapped to a 2x4 or something.

What about getting a metal spinner to do it? I've spun tubing on a lathe - much smaller scale though. I see no reason why you couldn't do it here - just need a lathe big enough - or weld stubs together??

THe thing abut the pepboys stuff is that is coated with the stuff, you'd want to sand blast it then you'd be able to weld it with no problems.
