    Selling today at Mecum.

    Motor Tread TV.

    Or go to Mecum Auction

Should be interesting to see how some of his hotrods sell.

Remind me, to never let Mecume anywhere near any of my Hot Rods! Tom Prufer 32 coupe just sold for $50,000.00…WTF.

I saw that and my reaction was the same. I know the car and as mentioned previously I was there when Richard purchased it. He was deeper into it than the hammer price. (I wonder where the air cleaner went? I noticed it was missing when it crossed the block)

Or, it could be a sign of the times.

  5. If you are signed up with the Mecum website just login, go to Kissimmee, go to view lots, pick the day that you want to view the prices.
It looks like the prices listed reflect either buyers fee or sellers fee. The hammer prices were less than Mecum shows.
    Hammer prices;
    Lot #219 Bonneville 34 W/flathead -- 50k
    #220 full size Wanlass/Ardun roadster - 140k
    #221 Wanlass sculpture -- 70k
    #225 Breece 32 recreation -- 67k
    #229 32 5 wdw w/ Cragar 4 cyl -- 60k
    #230 Prufer 32 - w/bbc - 50k
    #232 Thelen 32 - w/3278 sbc- 57k
    #234 36 Ford convt sedan w/fh - 30k
    #235 36 phaeton w/350sbc- 45k
    #238 40 cpe w/331 cad- 38k
    #241 40 Merc custom w/350sbc- 52k
    #242 46 Ford custom w/fh - 37k
    #243 50 Merc convert w/fh- 37k
    #245 49 Merc cpe w/fh - 47k
    #248 32 4dr w/350sbc - 28k

The above listed sales, I believe to be well bought considering the heritage of some of them, how some fit as traditional etc, all were real metal and the sale prices were way less than today's cost to build or have built to the level as presented at the auction.
If these prices represent current market value, I would be disappointed as a seller.
Some of the other rods sold for prices that were surprising, one way or another, I didn't list them.

My brief attention to the televised coverage shows a definite downward spiral across the board. Excepting maybe for some over resto-modded high end units. I too, was shocked at lack of interest especially in the 'traditional' hotrod & and 'muscle' era lots. Sign of the times? o_O

Looks like Kissimmee wasn't the right venue to sell The Munz Collection. Who ever bought the Prufer coupe stole the car.

Those stock 34 5Ws were a BARGAIN in the low 30Ks.

  16. Only considered bargains against previous bloated prices. Continuing the trend towards making hot rods affordable for regular people again. The bottom is yet to come.

It seemed like they sort of rushed it through pretty quickly…makes one wonder!

It's probably because that's not where the money is anymore. I watched a lot of the auction, and they seemed to concentrate on the real hugh-buck cars. Like the 5.5 million GT40 and the Steve McQueen Porsche 917 (which was bid to 25 million and didn't sell, BTW). Let's face it cars under $100k are "chump change" these days.

I recorded and watched most days of the auction. I was really kind of dismayed at the prices of most of the Muntz collection. I watched lots and lots of several year old Mopar "Demons" or whatever they are easily bring close to $200,000......and there was lots of them in all colors and configurations. What am I missing ?
