Anybody know him other than through the H.A.M.B.?
We have never met in person, but he lives about 45 miles from me in Yale, MI. If I had a real name etc. I might be able to look him up.
    I'm a bit worried!

Rick & Judy had a fire in the attic and it did a lot of damage over Ricks bedroom and the upstairs hall, there is also a lot of water damage, he has been working on the house trying to make it livable again.and dealing with the insurance company.

He said he will check in soon and appreciates the concern. HRP

Contacting HAMBers in real life is sometimes kinda weird. Some turn into great friends, and others are nothing like they are on the board.

I’ve had a deal worked out for some parts with a HAMBer on the north edge of my state for over a year. But he ghosted me and won’t answer any of my PM’s anymore. I’ve got no idea what I did to make him mad.

I strive to be consistent, to be just as big of a smart ass in real life as I am on the board.:)

Glad Ricky is ok but sucks about the fire and dealing with insurance..

  14. One thing I can say is with the five or six I've met from here in person it has always been pleasant. I'm sure a couple thought I jabbered too much lol

That's good news...and bad news at the same time. Hope Rick and Judy get everything straightened out sooner than later.

Isn't it amazing that in this age of instant , 24-7 communication, that when you can't reach someone immediately that we get all stirred up ? Then the first thought is ," Oh , something must be wrong " instead of , " Hey , so & so is having so much fun he doesn't want to be interrupted by anyone or anything !" Pessimistic Lot , Eh ?

Well, kinda like in “real life”. Say you meet with a group once a week. Then someone isn’t there for a few weeks, you start asking questions like “anyone know what Bob is up to”?

And on the HAMB we “see” each other daily. Then someone’s not around for a period of time, questions start to come up.
I think it’s the concern about folks that raises the questions.

And just like "real life" there are people you would miss more than others.
Rick is one of those people...a stand-up guy that appears to be a lot of fun. If we traveled in the same circles, he would probably be one of my close buddies.

Judy is not Ricks wife, she owns the property and Rick is the caretaker/handyman. HRP

Sometimes when things go awry the end result can be called an improvement.
    Let's hope.
    Ricky needs a break.

@HOTRODPRIMER , Rick has told me in past conversations that you have direct contact with him.
Please check on him again soon if we don't hear anything here.
God knows he has had to shoulder way more than his share in life.
Just an ounce of Rick would go a long way in some others........

Fire is a bad thing, I had one. It is fortunate that they got it under control before its a total loss.
Good to hear everyone is ok.

I've been there myself and I was a lot younger and able to do a lot of the work myself and lucky enough to have a father-in-law with a nice rental house for a couple of months. HRP

Thanks guys. Thanks a lot. Does me good to know that somebody in this world gives a shit.
Didn't mean to worry anybody. Had to focus on other stuff all of a sudden. I knew Danny told you basically what happened, so I knew that you knew I wasn't dead.
So, yeah, had an electrical fire in the attic over my bedroom. Old wiring not to code and mice probably chewing on it. I smelled smoke. Couldn't find it. Finally opened the little access panel to the attic and saw orange flickering lights. Oh shit. Grabbed the step ladder, poked my head up there and saw orange flickering flames 12" to 18" high. Oh fuck. Ran downstairs. Told Judy to call the fire department. Grabbed the garden hose. Hooked the sprayer on the eavesdrop. Ran back upstairs. Busted out the window screen. Stepped out on the roof and grabbed the sprayer and dragged the hose in as far as I could. It barely reached the access door. I started spraying. Flames were 10 to 15 ft from me. Couldn't get any closer with the hose. Couldn't see real good cuz of too much insulation puffed up and inhibiting my vision. Couldn't really seem to get the flames to go down. I did the best I could until the firemen got there and took over.
I rarely exert myself quite that much for that amount of time these days. Didn't feel real good. Went outside and sat down and I felt okay after a bit.
Since then, just dealing with the aftermath. Not a lot of fire or smoke damage, but a shitload of water damage. Both upstairs and down. That's mine and Judy's bedrooms. All my clothes and my bed and everything was trashed. Ironically, I had moved all my most cherished hot rod parts up there for safekeeping. The shit got real close to my cross ram intake, but everything's okay.
EVERYTHING in that end of the house had to be moved elsewhere. Now the other end of the house is clogged with everything LOL.
The demolition team has come and gone. Tore everything right down to the studs upstairs and down. Contractors are coordinating. I encouraged Judy to eliminate her tub and have them build a BIG shower for her that we can roll a wheelchair into if need be. So she's going to have that done.
We're certainly grateful it wasn't worse and that we're all okay. Don't even want to think about it. And we're happy the place will be fixed up nice. And little by little I seem to keep feeling stronger and stronger and getting some stamina back. Good thing, cuz this has been a lot. And there's lots more to do.
Of course, it's all keeping me from doing a lot of what I want to do.
You might not see me as often for a while, but I'll stop by when I can. I could use a laugh once in awhile. And especially if I've got any progress on my project to share.
