I think Steve Moal's shop is on Rides tonight. Yes,his stuff is shiney and smooth, but you won't find better automotive craftsmen anywhere.
It's on The Learning Channel (TLC) at 8:00, EST. Steve Moal is to craftsmen what Stevie Ray Vaughn is to guitar players.
It was a good show but the boat tail looks too much like a PT Cruizer. The front end is just too bulky. I do like Tim Allens car and the red car like it. Clark
I liked the show too. The craftsmanship in the boat tail is awesome..but i agree it is kinda bulky looking. I thought the top of the body, at the doors, looked high. It looked 'thick' from the top to the bottom of the body, although it may have been the camera angle's. That '56 F-1 of Tim Allen's was sick! I don't care if it was 'trad' or not. 500ci HEMI..blown and de-tuned at 1100 hp..YEEEE HAAAWWWW!! I love that truck! Rat.....
[ QUOTE ] Jimmy Kilroy is my new hero. [/ QUOTE ] i agree with that! i like how he didnt want to talk to the camera too. my kinda guy. trey
Pretty cool...nice to see some interesting shit being built without a bunch of phoney arguing or dramatic deadlines being thrown around for a change. A pretty enjoyable hour's worth of television! Is every episode like that? It strikes a good balance against the comedic chaos of American Chopper!
On Tuesday March 16th Rides will be airing the program entitled Road to the Ridler. They did the filming in a number of the Ridler contender's shops. I'm hoping that they get more into the details of the Steve Moal built '32 Roadster and the '37 Willys that won, along with a few others. Maybe that show will answer some questions as to why the Willys beat out the Roadster.
Rides finished here bout a half hour ago - here being Sunny California. Ok ... so it's wet and cold, big deal. Anyway, good show. Wish they would have focused a little more on the planishing hammer and English wheel techniques. Regardless, what they did show was a small education for me. I really like Allens little black roadster. Catches a lot of different things for me, good looks, sorta All-American hot rod and sorta English sports car of the 50's all in one package. I'm guessing that it's a great driver as well. Driver more in the vein of handling than power, but it's probably no slouch there either. It's not always about brute horsepower. Lots of nice cars on the car show segment. Too bad there wasn't more time to focus on the more interesting ones. Enjoyed Leno's Blastolene Special as well. The guy knows how to have a good time, but what I like about Leno is, he knows his cars and explains the tech details with ease. I understand he was a mechanic in New Jersey in a past life and does know what makes em tick. Jason did ok as well. At least this time his script writer had the stuff right. And before you pick on Jason, none of us knows it all. Second time I've seen it, but I'll be back . . . as certain high ranking politicians in Kaleefornya say....
[ QUOTE ] Is every episode like that? [/ QUOTE ] The vast majority are pretty good to excellent. And even if you are not thrilled by the subject,it is covered very well, for national television. No yelling or fake drama bullshit.
Thanks for the tip, Unkl...it was a good show all in all...I'll have to watch it more often! (Aside from TV Land re-runs, I rarely watch ANY television!)
[ QUOTE ] How much physical labor did Steve Moal do or is he mainly the money man....kinda like Boyd? [/ QUOTE ] Steve Moal is the builder/creator, not the owner.

It's on in 15 minutes here again and I'll wwatch it then, BUT the owner is a short, redish blonde haired guy and Steve is a dark haired guy with a mustache and glasses.

I don't know how anyone could find fault with last nites episode. When you compare it to "American Crapper" it was perfection in hot rod entertainment. I got a real kick outta the guy that built the Blast-o-lene Special. He built it in one year...incredible.
Finally someone on TV I can idolize. I believe a statement was made, most people just assemble, repair or slightly change existing automobiles these guys create them. Their patience and work is unbelievable. The true artists!
Was it just me or did Tim Allen seem to have a real problem trying to find first gear in that truck? He kept looking down at the floorboards all the time. Maybe the line lock was on? Seems like the Hemi was running a little rich at idle tho. Now having said all that , THAT TRUCK RULES! I loved all the car alarms going off.
Tim Allen should be the host of "Rides". A true car guy, a great personality and sense of humor. The show would be perfect. "Rides" should've done their "Shop Truck" episode on Tim Allen's truck.
I think Tim Allen just bought that truck at the Barrett Jackson auction last month. I remember seeing it sell on the Speed channel. Great show. I thought it was funny when he referred to Steve as "Mr. Personality" Denise it must have been a while since you have seen him....His hair is grey now!
