Tonights episode of Rides is pretty good. Brizio is building a '32 for the Edelbrock Girls from the ground up. They show the Engine being built and Dynoed at Edelbrock too. I am over half way through it and I have yet to see any staged arguments or people throwing shit around. Brizio and the Edelbrock guys are actually acting like the professionals that they are. They also talked to Jeff Beck about his car for a minute, and showed Eric Claptons '32 as well.
from the previews last week, it sounded like they were doing a story on the '32 Ford. but i'll check it out anyways. if the OCC guys fake the arguements then hand them an Oscar.
Just finished it my self. Good show, but common, who really needs to see a 32 replica kit car put together? Lets see them take a junker and start from scratch. Don't get me wrong I'm glad these shows are on the air, but I'm tired of bolt together cars. Lets see them do an A coupe from a nice stocker or something. Brizio is a great guy I've met him a time or two, very professional. Guess I'm just not into the super fancy bolt together 1-800 street rods. I prefer the home built do it your self stuff better.
That was a good episode! [ QUOTE ] I am over half way through it and I have yet to see any staged arguments or people throwing shit around. [/ QUOTE ] I'm pleased to say that there was none of that and the crew didn't have to rant or swear to prove they were "tough-guys." It was refreshing to see a deuce getting built on t.v. for a change. Even if it was a "bolt together" it's nice to see something put together well (and I'm not talking about the Edelbrock chicks either).
was i the only one who thought they ruined it with flames and green pinstriping? switch the rims out for some tall www black steelies beauty rings and baby caps and it would have ben killer minus the flames that is now it just looks like the rest of them
Funny, I thought it looked like the rest of the bolt together 32's until they flamed it. Each to his own. I still like em tradional. Neal
That was so much more enjoyable than The Boyd Coddington® Show that I couldn't believe it. Roy Brizio seems cool as hell.
I thought the show was great. But I have to admit it made me feel good to see how the pro shops do it. I built my 32 roadster at home in my garage and they did everything just like I did The nice thing about that show is there is no fake drama. It is about cars and building them. IT won't cater to everyones taste here on the HAMB all the time if at all, but it shines a profesional lite on the automotive hobby. Belive me if I was a customer at Boyds and saw all the screw ups and goof balls they had working on that 56 chev(not all the guys the painter seemed to know what he was doing) I would be very concerned about the quality of my car.
[ QUOTE ] Lets see them take a junker and start from scratch. [/ QUOTE ] That was last week with the old Chevy truck. Basic color theory,Complimentary colors work well together. Green is the compliment of Red. So if you have Red flames on a Red car,Green is an obvious choice. Warm colors advance,Cool colors recede. Warm color flames, like the traditional White,Yellow,Orange,Red blend will typically be outlined with a cool color like Process Blue. The addition of a cool color beside a warm color adds depth to the design. Green is a Cool color. Now we just need to explain this to the guy on the other show with the Yellow and Blue car. [ QUOTE ] Belive me if I was a customer at Boyds and saw all the screw ups and goof balls they had working on that 56 chev(not all the guys the painter seemed to know what he was doing) I would be very concerned about the quality of my car. how can you live with yourself putting a BB Chevy in a '32? any '32 owners/enthusiast dislike that choice?
[ QUOTE ] how can you live with yourself putting a BB Chevy in a '32? any '32 owners/enthusiast dislike that choice? [/ QUOTE ] What show did you watch? They copied me and put a small block in it.
i do enjoy watching boyd's billet hour 'cause he has a bunch of unorganized jackasses runnin' around doin' dumb shit (other than that charlie guy), and he pretty much treats 'em all like shit. have you seen how many times they f'ed up on that '56? he must have been embarassed after the first couple episodes aired. for contrast, you see those shows on chip foose and his crew, and they appear to have their shit together and they over-deliver what they promise.
Good show, nice car. I especially enjoyed the lack of arguing. The car had good lines, good stance and looked right. Probably aided a touch by the frames 2" extension. I liked the paint and the flames as well. The billet didn't seem to be overdone, the instrument panel winged piece was very nice. One place for improvement would be to have a hot rod knowledgeable person go over Priestly's script. There were several more than interesting comments in it. Other than that, I'll be back next week to take a look. (First one I've seen fwiw.)

[/ QUOTE ] i think a lot of people dont know some of the stuff on OCC and some other shows is just poor craftmanship, they just see some guy welding and thats that, im glad they finally showed a shop the way things should be done, they even showed roy fixing a screw-up, i dont really like the super high end stuff like jesse james and brizios but the stuff they do is remarkable and should be seen as such, the jokers at OCC are just plain hacks, its embarassing
I agree with you on the OCC show. I liked the first couple that I watched, but it didn't take long to figure out that they were just basically a Bolt-Together shop. The show where they were Pheasant Hunting really showed their stupidity. The poor guys that were running the Hunt were having to hit the Dirt everytime a Pheasant came up because the idiots didn't even have enough sense to watch where they were pointing the Shotguns. Towards the end of the Hunt, you see a man standing between Junior and Senior. As a Pheasant comes up and Junior swings the shotgun following the Pheasant, you see the other Guy Block the barrel with his arm to keep him from shooting Paul Sr in the back of the Head.
"switch the rims out for some tall www black steelies beauty rings and baby caps and it would have ben killer" Then it would like all the others...... I think Mikey from OCC meant to shoot his old man in the back of his head. Somebody should. Paul Sr. seems like a lunatic.
[ QUOTE ] you see the other Guy Block the barrel with his arm to keep him from shooting Paul Sr in the back of the Head. [/ QUOTE ] Now that would be "ENTERTAINMENT" but dont worry those pellets wouldn't penetrate his thick skull
LMAO. Awhile back there were posts lamenting the fact that none of these shows offered a straight build-up, that all this drama-queen shit had to be included. Now that we've gotten what we've asked for, it's getting rave reviews. I just hope that the producers of these shows hear the praise. But then again, no one ever lost money underestimating the taste of the general public.
Crap...I missed the show....I was wasting time out in the shop...whatta dumbass....How the hell am I gonna get any TV watchin done if I keep workin on junk in the evenings???
Well hatch, I don't have TV any more. Money better spent on parts. But I didn't feel like digging out my garage door from the snowbank last night so I went over to see my brother and watched it at his place. BTW there are 2 threads on this. I put my thoughts into the other one... I'm equal opportunity...
Roy seems to be a very level headed guy that has his shit together. His crew are a bunch of easy-going craftsmen as well (didn't realize Pat's son was really into building). The Edelbrock girls are built like REAL women, oh yeah, and they seem nice too. Even Jason P. didn't bug me like I thought he would, and I despised B.H. 90598384859823, those kids on the show stood for everything that made my life hell in H.S. (Down ski jacketed morons with lift passes on the zipper, Phukkem. Hey, I'm not bitter...). Yeah, I really enjoyed that episode. Maybe Roy needs some art? Yeah, I know, Taylor does his stuff. Love is all around
I enjoyed watching the engine build, said took 3 hrs. Jeez, 3 hours I can't even get the block cleaned up. It was with extreme envy that I watched the dude open packages and put brand new clean parts together rather than spend days cleaning crap only to find cracks and have to toss the part. I also liked the little pot of assembly lube and the brush, gonna get me a brush, then I will have no use for my index finger except to pick my nose. I thought it was a good show, Jason could use a little technical education, beats hell out of the rest of the shows, esp Boyds.
