I just had a pair of 5.90's mounted on 15x5 rims and they just don't look "right". The sidewalls bulge out about an inch on either side, generally making the tire look like a mushroom. If I found a set of 15x4 rims, would the sidewalls tuck in, or is this just how BFG 5.90's look? Thanks, Ed PS- I'll take some pictures when I get home
My experience has been that a rim as wide or slightly wider than the tire cross section gets rid of the "mushroom". I think a 4" rim would make it pooch more.
I agree, I think that maybe a 6" wide wheel might make it look better. Not hotrod related, but on my jeep I ran 8" wheels with my 33x12.5 tires to get maximum bulgage to protect the wheels from rocks and such. so since you want no bulgage I think a 6" wheel would do nicely as long as you are not running very low pressures or very high lateral forces as the 6" wheel will not hold the tire bead on as tightly since they are wider.
Use a rim that's close to the same width as the tread pattern. How wide is that? Go too narrow and you could roll them off the rim on balls out turns, or at least squeal a lot....
These dimensions are from the Coker website. Size: 590-15 Construction: 4 ply polyester Overall Diameter: 25.38 Cross Section: 5.88 Tread Width: 3.75
Sorry, I just found your post, here is a pic that I just e-mailed to you. This will give everyone a better idea of the look. This is the same tire size, and rim width. I think it looks alright, but that is just me. -Joe
