RIP Gordie. A lot of my memories of growing up revolve around watching Gordie run at the old Edmonton International Speedway and also of my favorite Edmonton speed shop, Pacemaker Automotive. Good times.
Spent a weekend with Gordie at Puyallup, Goodguys event. He was on a bum foot at the time, in a walking cast. He was signing t-shirts, and I got to drive him around in my hot rod milk truck. He was a great guy, and I am proud to have known him. Gordie was a lot of fun to hang out with, he loved Canada, loved racing, and now has crossed the finish line! RIP, my friend you will be missed.
I am sorry to hear that. I was familiar with his career in the 70's and had met and had a beer at his dads in about 78. That man was sure proud if his son! RIP Gordie Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
A friend told me about this today. Says he was admitted for heat stroke in Vegas & was released but passed away in a hotel room. That's all I know. RIP.
R.I.P Gordie. Another legend gone to the great dragstrip in the heavans. JJust saw him at Mission Raceway a couple months ago, during the Nostalgia F/C meet.
Worked on the body of his early Vega funny car when I converted it from the flat nose to the sloped nose just prior to his getting a whole new body. He worked out of a shop not far from my home. Even in those early days he was cool, not pretentious at all. And one Hell of a Racer, RIP Gordie, some of will always remember you.
