  10. David was a great guy, I always enjoyed talking to him whenever I could, even though his accent (or mine) sometimes got in the way.
He was an excellent writer and photographer. I'll miss seeing him.

  12. Yes ... in the '80s & '90s, David contributed articles to many different automotive magazines ... including street/hot rodding magazine titles like American RODDER ... as well as several "off-topic for the H.A.M.B." titles (e.g., Automobile, KIT CAR ILLUSTRATED, MOTOR TREND, etc.).

  16. In the 80s as a small kid I read a few copies of Street Machine my dad had, David covered the American scene for SM and I always read those articles the best I could. Those articles definitely planted a seed that an Aussie could jump the pond over to the US. I have a number of the books he wrote.

R.I.P. David, an industry icon gone way too soon, condolences to his family and friends.

Dang, sad to see that, I always enjoyed his work in the magazines and think I have a copy of Hot Rods that is down in the lower left corner in my stash.

Pretty sure I've purchased over 3/4 of the books he's written. Rest in peace, David.

I've owned the Barris books since they came out 20 or so years ago. Great reading.
    RIP Sir.

  23. I almost forgot ... David was also responsible for publishing this very "H.A.M.B.-friendly" book:

Vern Tardel - Hot Rod Your Model A.jpg
Available only from verntardel.com and Rodders Journal. This 340-page all-color book demonstrates the
traditional ways of hot rodding a stock model with a V8 flathead powertrain. Includes all the necessary
safety and engineering changes, using vinatge Ford parts and just handful of aftermarket hardware.
Includes wiring diagrams, templates and tools designs. This is Vern Tardel’s traditional hot rodding at its best!
