WOW, My Dad knew Dick back in the dune buggy days. Dad built a few of the Dick Dean "Shalako's" a VW floor pan gull wing kit car. I still have my model from when I was a kid of it. To many of cool guys passing in the same time frame leaving a big hole. a big loss FRITZ
the thing I see is we are lucky to have guys like Fritz.Shutten,Plowboy & Moriarity & alotta young guns to help pick up the batton.............
Bummer, I just saw him at the L.A. roadster show getting around on a sit down scooter. I wanted to say hi but he flew by me. R.I.P. Dick.
Dick picked my 40 merc as the winner of the "Perpetual Hammering Award" which was part of the last "Un-Nationals" in 1976. We got to hang out together and he was definitely as big a character as he was a craftsman. He kept everyone entertained for the whole weekend. He will certainly be missed. Mick
Thanks for leaving such a fruitful legacy Mr. Dick Dean. Rest well knowing how many lives you've touched over these many years. God bless the family and friends of a man who pushed his talents to the limits and beyond. We are blessed to have seen his visions become reality.
I have met D.D. and he was a interesting person and very talented guy. He was a great craftman and well be missed.

This picture brings back so many good memories for me, We had a house up Mulholland Drive and we'd pass the Jefferies shop on Cahuenga when we'd go to eat @ Bob's or Barone's. One sunday Dick N Dean were there and had the Monkeemobile parked very much like that and us kids begged pops to stop so we could have a looksee up close n personal like. Can't remember who lifted me in, but I was set in the seat so I could say vroom vroom vroom! Dad had Poncho's I still have a 65 GTO Rag Top, so as you can see it stuck! Both of those guys were/are great! They weren't the self promoters like others were in that type of biz. Just cheese grader slingers! Doing alot work to give that special car owned by someone a truly unique identity! Dick, Thanks for making a difference in the world! especially a 5yr olds back in the 60's!
another legend gone... there arent very many kustom pioneers left,, lets try to give the ones that are, the respect they deserve especially here on the hamb.. imagine the beautiful kustom they are building together right now up in heaven,,,,
Sorry to hear this, he was quite a builder I enjoyed his work, he seemed like a good guy from what I had read about him.
A great customizer whose work transcended the usual limitations of "the scene" to be known and loved through generations by millions Worldwide. With respect and appreciation, RIP.
What a loss. I first meet him at KKOA in 2000 and a couple times since great guy a real talent. I have a 41 ford with chopped carson top that he put on a 73 cutlass chassis back in 1974 great proportions and lines. He will be greatly missed. kool1
His name is synonymous with cool cars around the world. Condolences to the Dean family and his friends. R.I.P. Dick Dean. Regards Alex
