There was something about those red, white and blue Merc Marauders, and even better was Parnelli muscling one around a track. Thanks for the memories Mr. Jones, RIP.

The “Big Oly” is the one I remember from the magazines. RIP Parnelli Jones.

I met him several years ago at the Petersen museum Trans Am dinner. A life long hard core racer and really nice guy.

    RIP my childhood hero.
Loved when Ford started using the U3 paint code again (like 17 years ago).

    R.I.P Parnelli you were a racer's racer.

His real interest was open wheelers , but everybody only wanted to talk about his Mustang days
He let me see his private collection / museum in 2003

We saw him 50 years ago, we lived in Ensenada, and dad let us play hookey that day to go see the start of the race

Big Oly and Parnelli were the first Baja racers I ever read about. Talk about steel balls! At the time I didn’t put two and two together, but later it clicked, this was one of the greatest drivers on dirt and pavement! I would say the drive to do the double on Memorial Day is no doubt inspired by him, while he might never have done it, he probably wouldn’t have had any problems running two complete races and winning both! RIP legend. They aren’t making them like him anymore.
