That sucks! I have to say the funniest show was when he painted a letter on everyones ass in that bar and lined everyone up when that train went by. He made me laugh on every show. RIP Roy
Very sad to hear, i was watching him last night & was thinking i'd like to meet that grumpy old bastard. :-( RIP Roy
A wealth of knowledge and talent.......gone forever. As far as I'm concerned Roy was the only REAL hotrod builder left in "Floyd's" circus. Rest in Peace....we'll miss ya!
WOW, that is a real shame. I stopped watching the show a while ago, but that old guy seemed like he had great talent not to mention he was funny as hell. I saw my step-dad die from lung cancer (too many smokes). After seeing the horrors he went through I think that has got to be one of the worst ways to go............
I got there 7 years a ago. Damn Damn We'll miss you Roy not only because of you humor but also because of your talent.
I hate to hear this. I worked with Roy once upon a time. He was an awesome guy. He built cars right up to the end. Good for him. Hope he's comfortable now. JH
So - is there anyone with any skills left at Boyds? That Scott guy looks like hes a good guy, and the guy they have doing chassis's with the big mustache really knows his shit, but Charlie left, Mike left, and Roys gone. They were pretty much the backbone of the shop it seemed. Everything Charlie did came out awesome, mikes CAD designs were great, and roy could make anything.
I was just talk'n about him the other day wondering were he was, and why he wasn't on the show, now I know.....ONE awsome metal man gone.
You could UNDERSTAND some of the others (especially after they quit). And I'll have a soft spot in my heart for Charlie Hutton (who always wanted another half-hour to do it right). But Ray was the man I went to to understand how screwed up the shop was. Ray's "Moon-day" at the bar was the defining moment when I understood the whole TV show. In my last 65 years I've met a few sociopaths as screwed up as Boyd appears to be, but I've also met some great people as crusty (but steadfast and bedrock-honest) as Roy was. I never met Roy, but I'll miss him. Nobody but gold chainers will ever miss what Boyd has become.
Roy RIP......never met him but felt like I knew him...... I also saw my Dad die from lung cancer. I guess that's WHY I hate smoking so bad. My Dad was 83......last year when he died. He would have made 90 easy...if not for cigarettes...... If you smoke.....QUIT NOW
i couldn't agree more, roy was the only reason i'd watch that damn show, what a shame. roys now in the biggest bodyshop in the world w/every tool u can imagine & i would bet he's a cranky as even........RIP Roy, u'll be greatly missed....joe
Roy was the reason I used to watch the show. Just like Gary was the reason I watched Southern Chopper. I hope those two are tearing the place up wherever they are... Rest in Peace boys, we'll see you later.
I am glad that I had the chance to work with him. He had alot of talent, and was fun to work with, he always called it like he saw it. He had a good style he was was fast but not perfect. He would get it done. It was a sad day at Circle City Hot Rods today. Jimmy White
He's probably in the middle of a chop and channel job on the 32 3 window that I hear Jesus is building. That ol guy was the only reason for watching the show. Reminded me of a ol guy I worked with in Tucson. knew all of the tricks, Shut down a lot of the younger I know more than you guys, Cranky ol bastard but knew his shit. Hope to be at that caliber some day. I got the Cranky bastard part down tho. Dawg
If you got thru life working hard till the end and thats what people say about you after your gone, then you did damn good in my book! Roy...seems Lee was right when he claimed you were "da MAN!" according to the responses here.
Real bummer... to say the least. Ya just hope that over the years he passed on most of his experience, tricks, short cuts, good ol stories, etc. Got to keep this art alive. RIP "ROY", Hudrodz
I didn't even know that show was still on. Now I have even less reason to watch. RIP Roy! If he died just this week, I doubt the next several shows in the can would acknowledge his passing because they have already been taped. I would expect a "fade to black" tribute at the close of the next one, at a minimum, if not a tribute "retrospect" of his antics on the show and anything else of his life and talent they could put together.
so, i was filling holes in a '32 firewall at work today when i made a stupid mistake... vern came over and yelled at me and in memory of roy i took a nap at the frame table... nic
I knew things were bad for Roy when the last episode showed him being pushed in a wheel chair with the crew behind that black Hemi project...
I wonder if Boyd's ego would allow for a whole episode to be dedicated to a retrospective look at Ol' Roy, maybe, but he [Boyd] would appear in most of the pictures I bet. RIP Roy
R I P............... We dont measure up till we're old and crusty too......... and then ... only if youre a craftsman.
