So im trying to start my 31 for the first time before i get everything final (body on and all wired). Its a 327 with a points ignition, ive got the positive from the battery going to the big lug on the starter, batt negetative goes to a ground on the motor. Then the neg on the distributor goes to the neg on the coil. 'P' on the starter goes to the positive on the coil and the 'S' goes to a switch... tapping wire on the positve of the battery. The car turns over, tries to start but it just wont run. Took a volt meter across the coil and i got nothing until i cranked it over but i only got 3volts. Is something wrong or am i just missing something? If anyone could help me out that would be great, im way to tired and ive run out of ideas... haha
If you want to hear it run, put a wire from the bat + to the + terminal on the coil. Then trace your wiring through the ign switch like said above. It has power in the crank position but not the run.
That will happen with a bad ballast resistor also......I think. I am not too sharp when it comes to wiring, ignition systems tuning etc but I have replaced ballast resistors to cure that kicks but won't run thing.
