i'm flyin out sometime around the 27th or 28th. gonna chill out that way. hang with a friend a bit before drivin my rental heap up to Bakersfield for the Rod and Kulture drags. so what else is there to do out that way during the week? i'm lookin for cheap(ish) hotels in the area too. gonna play it by ear and just go where the wind takes me during the week but friday it is off to the drags. i have no set itinerary at this point and i like it that way but i don't want to be at a loss for things to do either. so what/who do i need to do and or see while i'm in town. you tell me...
what are looking to do? your in the hot bed of hot rods. theres tons of cool **** to see and do. do you want only car **** or looking for more siteseeing?
Riverside to Bakersfield is like Detroit to Cleveland. Lots of stuff to do in between. Do you want to do anything not "Car" related? If so, there's Yosemite, Sequoia National Park, Death Valley, which blooms wild flowers in the spring and the salt flats turn into a lake if they get any rain at all. Hearst Castle on the coast near Cambria. (Lots of this stuff requires a permit, phone call, ahead of time, and like in the old Joanie Mitchel song, ya gotta pay to get into the tree museums.) There's Will Roger's West coast ranch in the hills above Malibu. Last time I was there I watched a Polo meet and there's some old cars, T era, in the stable. Lots of stuff to do...
Like most have said, there's TONS to do out here... It just depends on what you wanna do and/or see. But since this is a car forum, I'll ***ume you wanna see some car stuff. Check out the Petersen Automotive Museum. They have a few cool exhibitions going on now. I think its like $6 to park and $8 for admission. http://www.petersen.org/
you're gonna miss the pamona swap but definately check out the nhra museum and the long beach swap is may 4. back to the beach is the weekend of the 26th in ventura.
KustomB if your in Riverside and going to Bakersfield drive through Mojave say hi to Gene Winfield, That guy is always busy, but he'll take his time to talk to you and show you around. He's having a metalworkshop around the 20th I think. Plus the drive through the Tehachapi p*** looks like the hillsides of Ireland! Yosemite....I don't think so Dr. J, its not just up the street from Bakersfield, Sequoia is closer but still two hours from Bako. If you come to L.A. There are some shops that have daily tours like Chip Foose's place. Have a great trip! Trout
what the hell is all of this "stuff to do" ****, mike? you know you'll wind up spending at least 4 days drunk, p***ed out on my couch.
that is a possibility but i thought i'd take my time getting to your place from LAX. i know a couple young ladies in Riverside i'd like to pay a visit to while i'm in town. would'nt mind seein some other stuff too. car related or not. Mike
as tempting as that sounds i'm sure i can find more exciting things to do. while i'm there. LOL i've been to the Peterson. been to Justice Brothers and even the Santa Monica peir just for the hell of it. even drove out to Malibu and watched a bunch of 50 year old men surf then drove around in the hills above Malibu just lookin around. lookin to find something new and exciting to do. cool collections to see. garages to visit. people to chill with. that sort of thing...
when you get to bakersfield, if the hermet zombie will come out we'll take you up to Amestoy's and getcha hammered. I think the last time zombie was out we had to carry him into the house and take his boots off. His knuckles were bleeding and not from wrenchin, from dragggin the ground hangin over trolls shoulders. P.S. we put a trash can next to the bed.
You are more then welcomed too stop by my Hot Rod shop. Iam located in Riverside. www.imperialhotrods.com or give me a call and I can give you directions. 951-201-7092 Randy
If you havent been to the NHRA museum I highly reccomend you go! Theyre open Wed-Sun only, if your going to be around till May 7 the twilight cruise they have there is definately worth checking out, plus you get free admission to the museum.I feel blessed to live soo close to the museum (about half a mile away to be exact) Also in Pomona is So Cal Speed Shop.Hmmm, you could also check out Barris' shop near No. Hollywood, if you havent yet. There is also the Nethercutt automotive museum in Sylmar I heard they have free tours but you gotta call in advance, off the top of my head thats all I could think of, I bet I could think of more if I tried, hope that helps..
