Road draft tube connected to exhaust

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rodomotive, Jul 26, 2011.

  1. I have seen and read a lot of info on the HAMB about adding a PCV system to a Flathead but have not seen anything about connecting the end of the road draft tube to the exhaust (like a Crankcase Evacuation System). This would pull way better at all speeds especially at idle compaired to stock, send the fumes to the rear of the car (instead of dumping them in front where they can enter the cab), would keep the underside of the vehicle cleaner and still look stock by retaining the tube
and with a one way valve it would be safe. (As an added bonus it would lubricate the inside of the exhaust system extending its life from rusting out lol)
Has anyone out there done this and are the results as positive as I have described?

The pressure in the exhaust system would have to be lower than the pressure in the crankcase for it to work. Also a check valve would be needed to keep exhaust from entering the crankcase. Doesn't sound like a good idea.

it works with open headers, check valve screws into a pipe ****** welded in the collector with hoses run to each valve cover. BUT with full exhaust you wont be able to pull enough vaccuum to make it work.

I think it's another case of a race car application that works at WOT but doesn't transfer to cruising RPMs on a small CI engine. JMO
