This past weekend a group of us Austin guys... Norm and Beverly, Reggie, Grable, Joyce, and me... made the run out to West Texas for the Viva Big Bend music festival. This is the second year we've made this little jaunt, and it's a hoot! On Saturday, we made the run from our Alpine HQ into Big Bend National Park, and a few of us spent the afternoon eating tacos and drinking beers on the 'other side' of the Rio Grande! Here's a few pics to give you a feel... a great time with great friends! Home office for the weekend. The crew at Marfa's latest roadside art installation - our '32, Norm's Rivi, Grable's Elky, and Reggie's five-window. Bombed down into the park... if you haven't seen it, you need to Grable's Elky taking it all in. Terlingua shade tree The Elky outside the Granda Theatre in Alpine... Joe Ely, with Lloyd Maines on steel guitar... helluva Friday night, then back again Saturday for the Texas Tornados The jon boat 'Ferry Captain' at the Boquillas crossing into Mexico... 'Your Ride To The Other Side'... 9 tacos, 4 burritos, 6 beers = $20 Eastbound and down... back home to Austin, tired and sunburnt.
I'm so jealous. Big Bend is beautiful. An awesome drive. Check. Lunch at Boquillas Canyon. Check. An evening with Joe and Lloyd to cap things off. Checkmate. Congrats on a great trip!
Great pics! Looks like a nice road trip. I thought the city told Playboy to take the bunny down? They thought it was advertising?
Cool photos, Looks like you had a fun trip. Any chance you have larger photo of this? I'd love to have it as my computer desktop.
Danyelle did an excellent job on that 327. The 2x4's really woke it up, and with the 3.50 gears I got an honest 20mpg at 75mph... 170' the entire time... it rules.
