I'll definitely print it off and post it up on the wall of my shed. It will bring me happy memories every time I glance at it. I'm also certain that I will return one day for another installment. I'd like to say 'thank you' for your suggestions. The places you recommended were exactly the kind of things that I was hoping for when I first started this thread and while you may have thought once or twice that I might miss visiting them, I had every intention of it. Thanks again.
Hey there Noel, Virgin did us fine on our flights - they're a little more expensive from Perth (1 extra 4-5 hour flight each way), but your price seems pretty good. Mt Rushmore is a pretty fair way from LA, which gives you a few routes you can choose from. I'd be happy to offer suggestions but I'm sure you are more than capable of working out what to see along the way. I'd love to see the LARS as well as SEMA - I know they're a fair way apart time-wise so I'd have to get awful creative to find a way to fill in the time in between without breaking the bank. (Hmmmmmm (thinking now)). My original idea with this thread was to just ask fellow HAMBers for ideas on good places or events to visit along the way - it wasn't my intention to turn it into a travelogue, but I am really pleased that I have (now). Along the way, it's not always easy to find the time to rattle off half a dozen posts a day after reviewing the pics - and that is after driving 500 - 700 kms for the day and looking at anything we can find along the way. I'm pleased that I kept at it though, as I'm sure I'll refer back to it in the future to rekindle memories of our trip. .............................. that is, until the next one, of course. Anyway, I hope you and Elaine have a great trip and I am sure everyone will look forward to hearing about your journey. Safe travels. Cheers. Graeme
Looks like a jam packed time for your trip, when in Pasadena a great museum is the Norton-Simon right on Colorado. Lots of super sweet art and sculpture by Rodin (the thinker) and it will not disappoint. Best wishes for a fun time, if in the Omaha area pm me and I will treat you to some good chow at one of Omaha's great eating spots.
Graeme, I will add another "thank you" to the rest. You, for sure, brought a little "couth" to the H.A.M.B. A real cl*** act. Perth can be proud of you. Ben
If you ever go to Las Vegas for the SEMA show remember the following week is the IMCA modified racing "Duel in the Desert" finals. About 300 open-wheel modified oval race cars show up at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway dirt track for 3-nights of racing. Each night is 5-hours of non-stop racing, one race after another with no delay.
Wow, it looks like I need to start planning our next adventure now. If only I could plan how to fund it, we'd be there for sure. A common problem for most HAMBers I'm sure. Fingers crossed - one day though. Cheers DB
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!! There is also 3-nights of non-wing sprint car racing at Perris Auto Speedway and 3-days of drag racing at Pomona, all in November. A person could see in the same visit sprint cars, drags, modifieds, and SEMA, all within a 3-week time span. I met a group from Australia in the stands at Las Vegas who did just that. And just to close out November there is the USAC Turkey Night Grand Prix for midgets at Perris on Thanksgiving night. Save those Dollars!
