Do we have a date on this pic ? That looks like Joe Chamberlain in the Camaro.
I think I know where that car is.

    Thanks

As much as I am an AMC and Donohue fan, can we keep this a bit more HAMB friendly, that's what this thread was about, more HAMB friendly road race cars. More for inspiration...

Yesterday, June 2, 2010, marked the 40th anniversary of the death of Bruce McLaren in a testing accident at Goodwood Circuit in the UK. The current McLaren F1 team marked the occasion at their headquarters with a moment of silence followed by more appropriate salute.

  25. Jeezus! Don't bother waiting for oil pressure...?! Oh well, I guess nowadays they are used to those engines that idle at 6000...

Seems fitting that they used the M8F, it was that rear wing design that failed on the prototype and got McLaren killed.

IIRC, the engines in those cars have a dry sump lubrication system. Plumbing a pre-luber (Accusump et al) would not be hard, and running the pump to have oil throughout the engine before starting is easily accomplished as well. Given the significance of the car, the day, and the fact that there are one or two people at McLaren who know just a little bit about this sort of thing, I think it is safe to assume that they had their bases covered.

I was fortunate enough to see some Can-Am McLarens run at the Gold Cup races at VIR a few years ago. I will be going to the 2010 Gold Cup tomorrow.

  27. I'm heading up to the Legends weekend at Watkins Glen next weekend. First time since 2006 I'll be re-united with the Can-Am Lola I used to take care of.

You're right, it is a dry sump. Still not a good idea to rev it as soon as it lights, IMO.
