Just got back from the Nor Cal Knockout car show at the fairgrounds in Vallejo. Saw your brother Johnny there with his 27 T RPU. I had mine there, too. As for the reliability run, it'll be a coin toss which car to take... Shadow rods, A bigger version of the 27 RPU. some don't like them, I do however.

  5. BTW, does anyone have an image of a car built using one of the Brookville extended RPU bodies? I'm, ahem, a little "plus sized" and need the space.

Dude, come down to my place one of these evenings and sit in my '29 before you decide whether you want one of these or not. I have a temporary seat in mine right now that is about as on the floor as you'll ever get, so it frees up lots of space in these things. Then we can go eat!!!

Mine is finally coming together… roller is effectively done after a few tweaks and bobbles… then on to body fitment.

  14. Brandon, that was a "Cars With Appeal" from an early '60s Hot Rod. I had it pinned to my bedroom walls as a kid. I don't remember which issue, but someone around here probably has it on top of a stack!

  15. Taken one evening at Irwindale with the top on. Arnold Avila and his dad built this car in the one car garage of their Baldwin Park home. It first ran a 409, but Arnold could not keep the drive line or trans in the car, so an SBC replaced the 409.

Wow! You've gotta be a walking encyclopedia about these things, Dean! It makes you think about how much more effort and dedication it took to produce a great hot rod back in the 50's and 60's when ready-to-run parts weren't as available, and when people didn't have all the tools, equipment, and garage space the average rodder has now.

  17. I was a huge fan of Arnold's car from the first day I saw it. That was before I started building my first RPU. I seriously considered building mine in the same style. Then I found out that the NHRA rule book would put the car in the altered roadster class. Since drag racing was my goal, I chose to keep mine more original to run in the street roadster class.

always have wanted a 29 full fendered RPU--maybe someday--lots of nice ones here but Dean Lowe's is still number 1 for me.
