One of the best yet! Sometimes it's good the see where the others came from.

 

A perfect example of: If you don't get the wheels in the right place no amount of money or finish will fix it. When you tuck a small wheel in a '28-'29 front fender perfection is the only option and stock may not be right. I may not be able to do it but I can not un-see it.

RPU racing at Lion’s Dragstrip 1959-60

I am setting up a secure place for viewing the old drag racing films for an archive location. It will be part of a large public access place for various information on just about any subject, with photos and films. It is a long process that has been on-going for quite some time. They needed information with each film portion and identification of those that are in the photos or films.

This is one of the street roadster pickups that remains not identified from those early drag racing days at Lion's Dragstrip.


So, any verified information and identification of the three different Orange/Red, Street Roadster Pickups is welcomed and will be given full information credit for a big photo project, PM me asap… thanks.

This section of early drag racing in So Cal had rules for being Street Legal. That was the key, Street Legal. At first, it was full fender roadsters and RPU only and that left off some street roadsters for the competition class . Even though, those fenderless or modified fendered roadsters were street legal, they did not fit the original street roadster class rules. So, after much thought and full inclusion of all street legal roadsters, the tech committee added in all, for the street roadster classes.

The only difference was that to compete in the street legal roadster class, like the Gas Coupe and Sedan Classes, a full scattershield had to be in place, top and bottom. (See early ads for the types.) There were no 360 degree complete coverage single units, until the 1961-62 era.

So, the full fender models or small fender style were allowed in the street roadster classes in the early days and made the competition complete in all of the different level classes. Some looked as if they were full competition models only, but still had the street legal equipment to be eligible.

I have already identified this light blue/green roadster pickup from my files.
