I was only reading the January 1963 Hot Rod yesterday. There are two neat rides in that issue if you are interested.

Gonna do a modification to this post:
My good friend GMC Bubba called me out on this. So to set the record straight here's the scoop on the blue roadster pickup.
GmcBubba picked the body up off of ebay. He was having such a great time with the traditional hot rod scene that he wanted to be able to share this experience with a couple of his emplyees (how cool is that, I'm still trying to figure out a way to get a full time gig at Bubba's).
Tom Culbertson had just finished up his first of a series of double tube chassis with the quarter eliptic rear suspensions on John Howard's green a white # 33 roadster. jim liked the setup and had this body and a pile of parts. He and Tom struck a deal and the pile of parts went to Culbertson's.
Tom built the frame, reinforced the body, hung the frontend, rearend, engine, trans, and steering and gave it back to Bubba. Bubba gave the body to Tyler, one of the Bondo Brothers who had a shop on Gasoline Alley. While the body was there having the bodywork and paint done, Bubba, Greg Manker, and Stan K. finished the chassis, did the wiring and plumbing in typical Bubba fashion letting no grass grow under their feet. Tyler got the body back to them and the car was done in near record time. Greg and Stan enjoyed the truck for the next two summers.
As all good things must come to an end, Stan and Greg moved on but the truck stayed at Bubba's. Bubba found himself with the truck, his cool Model A truck, the Krylon car and several Model t's.
Enter my fellow Road Rocket brother Mike. Mike had this 49 Ford shoebox. A trade was made and jim had a watertight ride and Mike had the blue roadster pickup. (Tierod here on the board now has the 49).
Mike left the truck as Bubba's had built it for the first year. Last winter I flaked a '59 Impala wheel for it and hand built a set of lakester headers for it. Mike installed the trri-power. we are just about ready to narrow and install a 55 Chevy dash in the blue pickup. New wheels, gas tank, are in it's future as well.
Sorry for any confusion this might have created and hope this sets the record straight.

I won't hate you. With every one you know, how could you possibly remember all of their names.
    It's Paul by the way.

  12. Does anyone know if the yellow altered is the same car as the old photo or a re-creation?

Mocked mine up last night - need to finalize bed mounts/supports, then it's on!

This pic has been photoshopped to adjust the altitude a bit.

I love this thing, with its unique and stubby proportions. Seems to me that there was an article in one of the early Hop Up issues (early '50s), showing it being used as a tow vehicle going to Bonneville. Towing a Deuce coupe, as I recall!
