I have a flathead powered '27 roadster going on an A frame. I have a '40 rear with the bells flipped for a spring in front setup. I'm wondering if an A spring with a few leaves out of it or a T roadster spring would be better. I can't find the perch width of a T rear anywhere. The perch width of the A is nearly the same as the '40.

I can't use the 40 spring due to clearance issues with the driveline and wishbones. The a spring would be easier due to it's width, but I'm thinking it may be too stiff for the T. Any opinions appreciated.

The T spring is not as tall as the A, about two or more inches lower depending on sag and or use over it's life. As withall hot rods the spring wll need some fine tuning, removings leaves untill you get the ride height/ride you like.

Ive had both t and a springs on my T modified. The t spring made the car sit to low and i would bottom out the rear end on the frame so i switched to an a spring with the top few leaves removed.

The other thing to be aware of is the "T" spring is 2" wide, versus the "A" which is 2 1/4" wide. The "T" is a bit lower, but by the time you flip the perches and put the "A" spring in place, you'll find that you have gone low enough that subframe clearence then becomes an issue.

I knew about the width difference. It will be much easier to use the A spring. I'm just concerned it'll be too stiff. I guess I'll just keep taking out leaves till it works.

    Thanks!

The A spring will work fine, I've done it and it's a good combo. You'll may end up using about half the leaves for the stock Model A spring. Photos are from mock up.
