Check out this 8mm film I just found on YouTube with a few different roadster spotting's in 1950's L.A. I wonder what the guy with the fertilizer on the fender of his truck is Saying to the gas station attendant.
Thanks for sharing @Speed Gems . What a great time that would have been to live in. The movie looks like it was professionally shot, I wonder what the purpose of it was?
Bandini Steer Fertilizer, wonder if they're still in business? I would have been Really disappointed if the kid Didn't Hop in the roadster! Fun watch, Thanks.
Hello, Nice film of early Los Angeles from a different look. Being So Cal, ranch style homes to downtown businesses were varied and typical of homes in that Los Angeles area. Some of the original footage was interspersed with commercial films edited in place. The ranch style house with the garage in the other part of the structure were popular in all of So Cal. In the East side of Long Beach, one of our friends had a very similar style of garage set up and we could drive under the roof connecting to the house. That part of the movie seemed edited in to act like it was part of the original cruising in the Los Angeles area and just happened to come across the kid in a roadster. Part of the old colorized film takes place near Silver Lake area and the vast Griffith Park greenery location. Near the park, observatory area and the zoo is what we remember on our many trips to Los Angeles to go to the zoo, at first as an attraction. Then later as we got older, the observatory was on top of a tall hill and had the best panorama view of all Los Angeles to the ocean. Back then, the sky had a reddish color at sunset, that was a normal occurrence. When the smog was apparent, the sky became brighter red and we all enjoyed the sight, through our heavy breathing for asthma sufferers. The Griffith Park area was definitely burned into our memories and visits as we became adults. My wife and I liked the observatory location as it was near our favorite areas of Los Angeles, not normally called downtown. We took our toddler son to watch a fabulous rock music inspired presentation in the Griffith Observatory. While sitting in some auditorium with custom seating that allowed one to lay back and see the show on the curved ceiling… That was awesome. Pink Floyd music included… plus a laser light show… Jnaki Beverly Blvd and Commonwealth looked familiar to us. As young adults, we like going to this area of Los Angeles. One of the main attractions was the introduction of a business called Tommy’s. It was a dinky place, but the food was perfect for 20 somethings cravings at the time. We stopped a couple of other times during our road trips to the area. But, many years later, the chain expanded and we found one closer to our OC area. The food still had the original taste, but the location was minutes away and not freeway driving for an hour and a half… Although, the aura of the newer location was just not the same as in the original structure in Los Angeles…YRMV
