Looking for some info. I have a 30-31 Roadster with deluxe windshield stanchions, that I believe are for the 11 1/2" windshield. I'm looking chop the windshield 2" but, I can't find any chopped stanchions foe the 30-31 roasdster. (28-28 no problem) Can I use "32 chopped stanchions for the 30-31?

32 stanchions are a totally different animal.

It's not that hard to chop stanchions if you have access to an experienced tig welder. Used to do it all the time in the early days before chopped stanchions became available.

I’m in the same boat with my 30 and I’ve decided to cut my own glass and pay for the tig welded stanchions. Not sure that info helps you but I’m heading in the same direction for the same reasons.

Yes, people have used the '32 upper stanchions on the 30-31. I actually had upper 30-31 stanchions on my '32 for a hot second (along with a 28-29 frame) until I found the right '32 schtuff.

I can't remember the exact measurements for any of the but if the eye to eye measurement for mounting holes is 2" less than what you have they should work.

The lowers are completely different obviously.

  7. the 1932 ford roadster stanchions are shaped differently at the lower half. They also use a 7 / 16 thread for the outside mirror as opposed to a 3 /8 thread for a model A stanchion. 1932 stanchions are NOT a totally different animal. They just have different configuration at the bottom half, but the chopped 1932 stanchions will work for you. It is probably less expensive to buy a pair of 1932 stanchions than having a pair of original model A stanchions cut and welded as well as blending in the taper in the chopped area. I have done many in the past before the chopped stanchions became available. It is time consuming to do the chop and make the stanchions look correct.

Thanks for replies. I should have been more specific as I was only referring to the top stanchions. I have not seen a pair of '30-31 chopped ones available for sale, only '32 . As long as I can mount the '32 upper on the 30-31 lower, I go with that.

  9. You should be good to go that way.

  10. LOL hack saw and an oxy acetylene torch.

If I had stanchions and wanted chopped stanchions they would just get chopped. There actually are some chopped stanchions in the want ads. You would have to scroll or use the search function.

In order to use the '32 windshield posts on the '30-'31 stanchions the lower stanchions must be relieved to allow the posts to tilt rearward. If you are considering a top, the '32 windshield posts will complicate things a bit. This is what I used on my roadster. I'll add a picture. Ron[IMG][IMG]

wouldn't that damage the stainless steel finish? Could they be chrome plated after that?

  13. If you weld, use the cut off pieces as filler All you should have to do is grind, file, and polish the stanchions. no chrome plating is necessary.

Thanks Nick. seabnecmc says that in order to use chopped '32 uppers, I must relieve the original bottoms. Can do that as I already have them chrome plated.

  15. You can modify / alter the bottom of the 1932 upper stanchions by grinding a little off of the bottom rear of the stanchion to get the desired angle that you need..
