Rip Eric, you will be missed by fellow hotrodders and your restuarant patrons. Condolosences to the family, Skip, Acme and other friends. The people that passed the scene, was the roadster driver side have minor front damage and the honda passenger side rear? i can't tell by the one picture posted, both vehicles are backward for me to tell. Why i'm asking, the way i keep hearing it here is the Honda slowed for construction and the roadster swerved to miss it and clipped the rear corner of it as he was slowing down but he swerved in front of the dodge ram that rear ended him then.
My prayers go out to his friends and family, that they may somehow find peace and comfort in the assurance that he was doing what he loved. Jim
Maybe a get together to raise some money for his wife,at the resturant in the near future, could be arrainged? I'd help out,any way I can. Might be too early, but just a thought.
I have no words, there are no words, some of us should watch our words. My sincere condolences, I guarantee he was my kind of guy. Godspeed Brutha.
I guess if I have to die I would like to go while driving my old ford rather than sitting at my desk at work ( which I hate) from a heart attack. When I had my T Bucket I watched the rear view mirror all the time and would always look for a "way out" to avoid of getting rear ended. Now with the shoebox I have alot of protection behind me, plus I'm driving slower so most people want to pass me.
Agreed, as a first responder, firefighter paramedic my self, I can tell you the final resting spot of the vehicles does not tell the whole story. My thoughts and prayers go out to all involved in this tragedy. Skip, don't blame yourself and don't give up over this. Hoping that Justice is served...
I think we can agree that driving old cars isn't as safe as driving the newer ones. But,when put in a bad situation, with another vehicle, sometimes it doesn't really matter what you are driving. They might have had just as bad a result if they were in a Toyota or Honda. Driving a Hotrod is like riding a motorcycle sometimes. You are only as safe as the cars around you. I heard about this at the Anti-donut breakfast, this morning. Still can't get over seeing that picture! Puts a real damper on the weekend...
So sad to hear. Prayers for the family and friends in this time of grief. Anyone have an update on Eric's wife? I have been driving the '32 a lot since it's warmed up and I have had a number of near misses lately. It seems like we're invisible to most people. I drive with my headlights on, have bright '50 Pontiac-style LED's and I'm always watching the mirrors and looking for a "way out". Takes a lot of the enjoyment out of the ride, but it's the only way to drive nowadays.
Drove this road too Santa Maria last year , was a little hairy in a Camper van , so sad to hear this news , thoughts are with the family and friends , God speed Bro Eric R.I.P cad
I just got back from Santa Maria and it still rings through that this could happen to any of us. Its such a shame it happened to him. Prayers to his family. Be careful guys. Sometimes even thats not enough, but do your best. RIP
i think this would be a great idea, and an opportunity for us to show our support. Tragic news.. my heart goes out to all his family and friends..
thats really scary...especially when its not even your damn fault...im always a bit nervous when im riding my chop...thats why I have a very bright LED brake light and laud ass pipes...im doin the same on my roadster...in this sence....fuck tradition. and always drive like EVERYONE is out to kill you. its a little paranoid but thats the realities of today. my deepest condolences go out to the family.
To everyone involved i'm sooo sadden to hear of your loss and know exactly what you are going through. Be strong and hold ya head high in his memory....One luv DDR R.I.P Eric
This is truly a tragedy. I'm so sorry. This really hits close to home and puts things into perspective for me. Tragic.
Im am so so sorry for him and his family. This is so not fair. I never met the guy and ive been so upset about this all day it makes me sick. Him and his family will be in my prayers.
I know what you mean. I've been thinking about it since it was originally posted. I was at the shop today and we were talking about bikes and wrecks and whatnot. I brought up this whole thing and everybody was really bummed. It's funny how even though we never knew him, it's like part of our extended family passed away.
Condolences to all the family and friends. Rodders, you have to drive for everyone out there. As mentioned, drive like you're invisible. On a lighter note, I hope when I go it's quick, spectacular and maybe in my rod...not sitting in a home drooling, shitting my pants.
This gives me chills down my spine. To friends, relatives, family and wife I wish you all the strength you need to live without Eric. It is a real wake up call how fragile life can be.
