What the hell kind of "Wind gust" could do that?? Do you mean Tornado?
I am glad he's OK but I would never rebuild it, I lose heart in a wreck with a car after something like that & have to start with a new one.

  4. Amen I almost rolled the 52 on I-5 from Vancover to hezeldale that road is real bad as well as the the last 10 miles going into longview,

  5. When you wreck a car and survive the accident the car becomes part of your soul!! I wrecked the car in my avatar some 30 odd years ago. Almost killed me. Sat torn apart in the garage for 25 years. Then I got the bug and redid it. But the first time it rolled out of the garage it was just like it was , 98% , the day I wrecked it.

Car has too much history to not rebuild.

It's the Boyce Asquith roadster. Always will be- no matter who's the caretaker. It deserves to be rebuilt.

  8. Having driven mine in some severe winds in the past I can tell you straight off that it can be damned hard to control one that has narrow fronts and extremely wide rears. And if the pavement quality is shit it just makes it that much worse.

The thought of ever being in a wreck in one of our creations makes me cringe. I just have it in mind that if it ever happens that odds are I won't live. On Memorial Day weekend a mother and son here in Wichita were killed when they crashed their 32 roadster. The father was traveling behind them on a motorcycle and also crashed when he saw the accident.

Hope Dave is doing well and glad he's not dead.

I feel the same way about my A Tudor that was wrecked and crippled me 2 years ago. I couldn't imagine letting go of that car. It is a part of me.

I don't know about the landscape or weather in NY but out here in the West we have a lot areas along various highways were you go from being in a cut through a hill to being out in the open where the winds can blast down through a canyon at times and then back through another cut in the next hill.
At times even the most stable car can move over quickly if the driver isn't ready for the wind gust to hit. I would imagine that was exactly what happened to Dave when he got blown off the road. Cruising along happily and then slammed by the wind he didn't expect. Usually you see what is going on with the cars ahead of you and prepare for it but if you don't have anyone directly ahead of you you may not have time to prepare or react.

    - I damn near had my head ripped off by a jack-knifed tractor-trailer that shot across the road in front of my lowered '69 Coupe de Ville - Cars do not have souls (except in B movies like Christine) - But, if a car tries to kill me, whatever the circumstances, rutted, rain slick roads, speeding, whatever, I'm KILLING the car, period - Superstitious? Me? Hell yes. But only because I have no other answer for my permanent paralyzed body - R.I.P. Caddy, my old friend -

    To the top.
Anyone know if Dave made a full recovery & what he's doing now?

    And what about the roadster?
Hopefully, someone has plans for it. It needs to be rebuilt.

You are right. I have since decided the same thing and moved it way back. It was just tacked together in those pictures.

Curious how Dave's recovery is going....hopefully his friends will see this back at the top.

Way not? I drive an 80,000 lb truck and the wind has picked it up about 3 feet up so way give up on a Roadster or any other hot rod!!!!!

For the ones that have never been in high winds in states like Kansas, Nebraska the winds can get up to 60 mph or more in Wyoming, Colorado (east of the mountains) and in California I have seen winds get over 100 mph....

As the driver and who ever was ridding with them I hope they get better soon.

Was talking about this car recently and wondering how and if it's progressing. Also, how's Dave doing?

The car has been rebuilt and the updates stopped coming a long time ago. Not sure on any of it.

  23. The car is alive and well. I saw it at the GNRS, and it is completely restored to it's former glory. Always loved Boyce's roadster. Glad it was restored.
