We are building a '27 Ford Roadster, pretty much from the ground up. We've dropped a 1953 DeSoto 276 Hemi in her, for which we have fabricated an adaptor to allow us to use a large base Rochester 2bbl carb.

We had picked up a carb that I was told was used on a 350 SBC, but when we got it home, and checked it out further, we discovered it was a 2GV. While I am pretty familiar with the Rochester 2G and 2GC, I am not too familiar with the 2GV and it's applications.

Obviously since we are putting it on a Hemi, there will be no corresponding intake heat-sink. (Pardon any incorrect verbage, as I said...not familiar with them.) The car will only be run in the summer, so I'm thinking we could actually do without a choke altogether. Can we use a 2GV for this? If so...what modifications will I need to make?

I'm also wondering if I might run into trouble with my aircleaner when using a 2GV. We plan on using a Technostalgia '51-'56 retro Olds/Caddy air cleaner and bought the adaptor which is supposed to make it usable with a 2GC.

We are perfectly willing to buy another carb, but am now wondering just what application we should look for. i.e. what make and years. After doing a little research, I did discover that most Rochesters used on Chevy's and Pontiacs around this time period were 2GVs, not 2GCs, so I'm not sure where I should be looking.

Most of my carb experience was with the small base Rochesters, so I'm having to learn a lot and very quickly. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks and have a great day,

Can't really answer your questions, but I have kinda a related question. I have 4) Rochester 2GVs on my "Graffiti" inspired 5 Window Coupe. I know the carbs are minus the chokes - not really sure why they came that way? My main question is: "Where is the best place to by replacement parts for these carbs?" Currently, I'm looking to buy some replacement gaskets (nylon rings) for the fuel line filter brass fittings. They are almost like oil pan drain plug gaskets, but not quite. Thanks.
