Looks like another year has past but the music still lives on with each of us who have never forgotten their memories. RIP Buddy, JP, and Richie.

    Jonnie, hope you are well.

RIP Jonnie, or else he is suffering from dementia, god forbid. Was waiting to see if his thread would get bumped as it has for ten years....

At my age, time seems to past by too quickly, thanks for those who provide the "speed bumps points to remember.

I was in 2nd grade that fateful day in 1959, my Dad & Mom always called rock & roll "negro music" I would sometimes sneak out to the 55 Buick in the driveway and turn on WCOL in Columbus, OH to hear all the new(at the time) stuff. I thought as long as I had my AMT cars, Rod&Custom magazines and my bike with the playing card "dual exhaust" and could listen to R&R once in a while I was one KOOL little dude!

I'm gonna be a dick, so you been warned. What percentage of the lost artists' greatness was fueled by the untimely loss? It's a sincere question. Why would I be such a dick with that ask? Well, all of a sudden Lynard Skynard became the mega icons of that period when some of them were lost, yet I could die happy 20yrs from now if I NEVER heard "Freebird" again. Prince didn't get 20% of the accolades and pomp foisted upon Michael Jackson when each died, but I'll raise a rt hand to the fact Prince was exponentially more talented both on his feet AND in the studio. Do I like Holly, Valens and Bopper? Sure. Not all day every day but yeah. For dessert maybe. Just an observation. So often a good seller gets confused with a good talent, and to these lives lost they were unique and early so that part I can see. I guess music didn't really die and never felt that vibe. I was too young, but I didn't feel that way about Janice (yuk), Jim and Jimmy. Morrison was quite a loss of prose, and Jimmy had magical technical prowess. Glad we still listen today. Anyways, I warned you my observances and questions would be founded in being a dick. Maybe...?

Just your opinion - we all have one.
And I don't mind touching it BrerHair.
A loss is a loss at 20 years old or 99 years old.
You never know how many people you touch in your life that meant something to them.
Musicians make music to enjoy themselves, entertain people ( and fortunate enough to make money doing it).
Talent comes in many forms and music can be a joy to feel good about.
To each his own...enjoy the music who ever you pick or turn the dial if you don't enjoy it.
    Pretty simple isn't it ?

Every day is a good day.

    See my signature line ?
You have a right to remember who your hero is or was and the right to who ever a legend is in your mind.

    Sincerely,
    Cob

My all time favorite song since I was in the 6th grade, I think. Was Don Macleans? “American Pie”. I never had a clue about what it was about, but the “drive my Chevy to the levee” hooked me.
I honestly didn’t know the meaning of the song until the movie came out, I forget the actor that played Richie Valens, but I began to put it together after that.

Wish I could take credit, but my daughter was sitting right here. She's just like she was in her teens, she knows EVERYTHING;).

I should clarify that I mean no disrespect to them or anyone. Or anyone's opinion. Maybe it's a social observation. Didn't we still have Johnny, Elvis, and so many more? This isn't a new thought for me, I've wondered this for a long time like since I became aware of music in general and this cliché about it. Yeah, @BrerHair I am a dick but recognition is a step yes?:)
