hello. im about to replace the rocker arm shafts and rocker arms on my cadillac 331 (55´) but hit a problem. im not sure that the old ones is correct installed. shall the notches and holes be up ore down? I hope you understand what i mean. please be gentle, im from sweden
Well, were it an Olds the answer is that the holes and grooves in the rocker shaft go down tword the head. I suspect it's the same for a Caddy but hopefully some one in the know will answer.
I took a valve cover off of my '53 for you. The notches point up. Hope my engine builder knew what he was doing. I haven't got much time on the engine but it runs good and seems to be getting oil everywhere.
My Caddy manual says the oil holes in shaft must face down toward the cylinder head and also the notches on end of shafts must face downward.
I have a stock 331 in one of my 54 parts cars, I'll pull the valve cover tonight after work and take a look.
I was wrong. If you look close at the picture they do face down towards the engine. Really though if you ran a horizontal line through them the notch would be a little above it.
