I will first try to see if any of the 4 machine shop I sometimes use are willing to do the resurfacing thingy before attempting to fabricate the required fixture, but I'm pretty sure of their answer. I already started to look for infos on how to do it.
The template and marker idea are great, didn't think of that and I've never seen it mentioned anywhere till now and I was wondering how they replicate that radius.
At work we have a bench grinder that's used only for the lathe cutting tools but I don't trust that thing it will be especially hard to mount any kind of fixture to it. I have to unearth the valve grinding machine that's laying somewhere to see if it's possible to use that.

In France, how 'common' are engines like the Hemi and the Cad ?

They both are extremely scarce, US cars have never seen big sale numbers, when you find such engine usually there is the rest of the car attached to it. Although if you look hard enough and for long enough you can find stuff : I found a Lincoln flat V8 and V12, a Cad flat V8 and a Packard v8 engine, I had to pass on all of them or my wife would have disemboweled me.
It's easier to import those from the US but more expensive, all my engines are "French".
But you can get real easy Ford/Simca flathead v8 , Buick/Rover V8 and the almighty SBC.

  5. With a good eye and a steady hand you can reface rocker tips with a belt/disc sander.

I'm not planning on using cones. Just like when I balance my tires I hate those cones I always go to the trouble of using the lug set up : too easy to be off.
At work we don't have a disc or belt sander, neither do I unfortunately. I would still use a fixture.
