speaking as someone who loves Rocket Oldsmobiles i think you should go with the flattie.

    why?

    more and cheaper parts availability.

  2. I think it depends what kind of rod you are building. If its more of a mid '50s to early '60s car, go with the Rocket since they were popular by then, but not too common today. If its anything earlier than that, go with the Flathead. You have to put Flatheads in perspective, 185 HP was a lot in 1947. I love Flatheads, but if you can make the Rocket run, Id say throw a cam in it, open headers, 4 or 6 carbs and off you go!

  3. Yeah those Hemi's sure take a steamy dump on those flatheads with thier antiquated "valve in head" technology :D

Wow. The "collection" I got is two 303's, one is a runner with a flywheel and pressure plate on it and some weird pulley on the front for a factory supercharger(?) and a rebuilt 324 that has been bored with new pistons and all the goods. Also an automatic ****** that is damned weird looking. Im going to run a T5 with the runner 303 I think, and have the 2nd coolest T ever. I already have the T5 but I also have the 8BA, and now three rockets. So, I guess its decisions decisions....... Does anyone know about the factory supercharged rockets? Is this motor something special or is it some AC pulley? Its a big*** one on the front most crank pulley.

The supercharged part is a typo or the flathead vs. rocket....? I saw the pulley with my own eyes, but I dont think its anything that would turn a supercharger. I think the guy I got them from just doesnt know what hes talking about. But I dont know olds motors....

Rocket for sure. I'd trade a good flatty straight up for a 371.

Which should be no concern at all, if you ever owned a Y block. :)
