i've been requested to post a few pic's of what me and my buddy(who now owns the pu and is a non-hamber) have done to it.i hope this doesn't ruin it for anybody. first we did the box floor and gas tank...we had to get rid of the plastic boat tank and installed a 16 gauge steel floor, after putting a few bead rolls for strenght. he plans on leaving it unpainted..it all ready has a patina of rust
next is front and rear nerf bars. we bent these out of 3/4" rod. we haven't welded them on yet...what do you think?
mounting `40 ford lever action shocks...not quite finished with them. also not finsished with a new steel floor,i'll post pic's of that when we finish that
It is always good to see that truck. I like the updates 'cept maybe for that rear nerf. It's just kinda out there on its own. I like the front a lot. The other improvements will help safety/comfort/driveability. Good job. -JH
we have't done much to it lately because i've been helping him finish up his `36 5 window coupe. we put about 50 "test" miles on this today... few minor bugs, but we got it fixed up. this was an all original car, original paint,etc...the floor, tailpan, etc needed no patching! it's got a 350/350 and an 8" ford rear, but it's still a neat car. it was my project at one time, sold it to him about 5 years ago to do my `36 three window ...now i wish i had it back!
1.The nerfs are way cool, both front and back 2.The pantina is fantastic 3.The overall looks is awsume 4.Don't change a thing
I like the changes...and I was one of those "Don't change a damn thing!" guys! You guys have made tastefull upgrades and changes without killing the 'spirit' of the famous truck! I like it...keep the progress pics flowin'!!
Cool updates on the truck. Man, seeing big ole cars like that '36, and Ryan's '38, and the 5W in "Greased Lightning" with Richard Pryor make me want one bad, and I know where a cherry one is for cheap. It's*****in ugly though like some cream color, but it's got major potential.
The box floor kicks****.......the new [safer] tank is a fine improvement but..........the nerfs are an uneeded addition of weight, IMHO. Of course, I was going for a look similar to what a G.I. would build after coming back from the war in 45-46....I don't think rodders began building that style of nerfs until the late 50's.... If Minnesota requires bumpers or a facsimile, those are cool but I still think less is more. The shocks were needed. Over all, I still like it alot! Poncho Billy and I were going through my photo album tonight and I was looking at the "before" photos of the little truck when I first brought it home........hacked frame and taaaaaaallllllll top....no motor or trans...47 ford passenger car front suspension with original 34 steering... no box, no fenders and no grille shell or headlights. Man! It was rough. It's nice to see it's still goin...
