me and my buddy(the owner) finally found some time to do some work on it. i had made a new tie and drag link out of 7/8" DOM tubing, put in new tie rod ends and we got it installed and aligned. the two upper in the photo are the new, bottom the old
this is what my buddy has done so far to the floor, needs some more work....sorry the picture is so dark
we both thought the gap between the front of the box and frame didn't look quite right...so we made these pieces out of 18 gauge and tacked them in....i like them, just wish he hadn't used so many tack welds!
ya know if you put the tail gate on the other end and turn the bed around i bet those wheel arch lines in the side of the bed would be centerd on the tires
Lets see, it was Rockys, then mine, then Scotts, now 36s buddy! And Tim, those measurments are still painted on the bed from when I told Rocky to flip it end for end Looking good, nice to see that floor!
[ QUOTE ] Did you tack those new bed skirts to the frame rail? Or is it just the photo? [/ QUOTE ] my buddy tacked them to the box and the frame rail....i told him just a couple tacks to the box and leave the bottom loose to allow for flex,we'll have to see what happens after some miles are put on it. we can always make more. the floor he did out of 18 gauge too,and ties into the lower back part of the cab, which was unattached to anything...needs some more work, like ****** tunnel cover, toeboards and the lower part of the firewall i saw the markings on the box...yeah,we should have turned the box around after all these owners he will need to change the name of it,i've made a couple of sugestions to him.....i won't tell you what his wife calls it....
Lessee here...if I remember right [yeah, right!] the box-side bulge will line up with the back tire if ya reverse the tailgate and headboard and trim a few inches off the back. I thought it would look a little better with a few inches trimmed off the back anyhow. The Rocky-33 designation isn't accurate anymore but changing it is kinda like changing your dog's name. Hard to get use to. I love the new floor but I was gonna remount the cab first. I made front cab mounts and was sciencing out rear cab mounts before T-man bought it. After making the mounts and welding them in place, I was planning on cutting the cab loose from the frame. The cab is actually welded to the frame rails. The new filler panels below the box are cool but will no doubt cause problems when the little truck flexes and if WILL flex until the frame issues are addressed. It's getting better all the time! Tell the new owner I like the improvements..mostly stuff I never got to before the truck went away.
Looks good Greg ! I love the patina. No paint on that old truck. Yes, I agree those side panels won't work welded to the frame. If the tacks don't break the metal will surely crack. There's a hell of alot of flex on those in that area. It makes me want to start a new project already! Good job
