Or he could just piss up a rope. It'd take less time and have about the same effect on their marketing strategy. ;)

btw.. Dont forget to tape a brick to each card before you mail it.

  2. Aw, shoot, you said it ALL:eek:

  3. This thread is hilarious - That Rod magazine is owned by Source Interlink, Petersen was about 4 owners ago and Primedia sold all the car mags and more earlier this year!

Like Spellcheck or the latest business news? (Like McArgus, Peterson hasn't been Peterson for a couple acquisitions now...)

It's been said, probably more than once already, but if the core of my life's problems was an unsolicited DVD--that had anything to do with old cars, no less--I wouldn't need money I'd be so happy.

  8. I'm still waiting for the feature of a certian black 40 ford coupe to come out:rolleyes:

    That what makes me angry.

But Ryan having to call it Rod Magazine makes me laugh my ass off:D

    I got a bill today from R&C.
they are asking for payment or the return of the DVD.
I threw out the DVD months ago and I am not paying for something I didn't ask for.
    this is BS marketing.
I e-mailed their customer service and thats more then I wanted to do.

Just call them up and tell them, YOU just gave yourself a job at THEIR marketing company and you want to know when they are going to start sending your paychecks? I just told them to stuff it!

  13. I was talking with my mailman once about all the junk mail. He said that basicly, the junk mail is what keeps you from spending $10 to mail a simple letter, because its all the postage from the junk mailers that is the bread and butter of the postal service.

If someone showed up at my house uninvited, I'd toss their ass out. Treat the DVD and the bill in the same manner.

The pisser about the way this was done is that it doesn't give the end user a reasonable way to opt out. If you don't return the DVD, then the continue to hound you for payment. If your not obligated to purchase anything then why do they keep asking for payment. If you send the the piece of Sh#@ DVD back to them, it's my time spent to read and understand their instructions to put it back into a post paid envelope and mail it back. I didn't ask for them to send it to me, why do I need to understand their explicit instructions?

If you accept the DVD then you've played directly into the gorilla marketing and made this type of marketing more desirable to do in the future. Don't do it for all our sakes!

  17. Like I said before in this thread, eventually they have to admit they can't charge you for the DVD. But it's a marketing technique, I think especially with the issues with credit lately whatever marketing group is behind this keeps sending bills hoping people will think they have to pay or have messed up credit over a $10 (or however relatively low cost) item. In reality the value of that item is so low it's not even worth their time to send to a collection agency to report to your credit. They go ahead and send bills anyways, hoping even if they can't fool you on the credit you'll pay them so they'll stop.

With the Nascar DVD I got unsolicited, eventually the last bill came and basically admitted they couldn't charge me or demand I send it back because they sent it without asking me first, but they really really hoped I'd pay for it or send it back to them to send to someone else. I kept it mostly because I'm lazy, but also if I have it they can't send it to someone else.

I wouldn't even worry about it.. if you get the DVD, watch it, use it for skeet shooting practice, make a coaster out of it, put it out on a swap meet table for a couple bucks... whatever makes you happy. If it ends up they give away more free DVDs than they actually get people to buy, they won't do it again... I'm sure they have a little money tied up in each one, probably less than a dollar even after they send a couple bills to you, but still... multiply that by 50,000 DVDs - they have to actually sell a lot of them to pay for the whole deal.

I got the DVD a few months ago, pretty basic good to know stuff, although you can get the same info from watching SPEED, two guys garage, hotrod tv, gears, shit any of those shows in one episode. and i didn't send it back or pay for it, its just sitting in my dvd player and i put it on sometimes when i'm too lazy to go out to the garage, gives me motavation,.. but like a good porno after a few times of watching it you want a new one.

I kinda know what you mean; I had to sign up for the web music deal in order to get some lyrics I needed for a project, and they sent me a subscription to "Rolling Stone" magazine, a filthy communist rag if ever there was one. I wouldn't line a bird cage with it, and they won't stop sending them.

  22. Actually Tommy I care what you think. I don't always agree of course but that's a given right?Non the less on the whole R&C thing its the first magazine subscription I ever had I was about 5 or 6 so that puts me @ about '59 or '60 myself. I haven't recieved a DVD but I do have more than one Hot Rod hat (figures I don't wear a hat). Its a pain in the butt. I never bother reading what they send me unless its in a magazine cover.I hate junk mail also so we can agree on that. My whole rule of thumb is if I want something I am perfectly capable of finding it and don't need anyone to inform me that it is something that I can't live without.

I started this shit.:D They lost me as a subscriber. I shit can all of their mailings now so I don't know if it's a bill or a renewal notice. I'll never know when my subscription has expired since they all hit the trash.

i always renew my subscription of Rod and Custom at the Street Rod Nationals at their booth, you get cool stuff and the "Show Special". but i still have not sent the dvd back they sent me and they keep sending me bills. im like the rest of you guys screw them and their stupid marketing ploys. i have not even watched the thing yet and probably never will. i think im going to take the return envelopes and put some lead sheets (used for flashing around roof openings on slate roofs) in them and mail them back, maybe then they might get the idea!

Yeah, isn't that a bitch. You get the DVD you didn't want in the first place and then have to deal with it. How do you like the continous subscription offers at big discounts? If you weren't paying attention you would have 20 years worth. On top of that the magazine is nothing like it was and is sub-par at best.

    got another e-mail from R&C.
they want "more information" to process my complaint.
I guess my address is not enough.

I am so pissed off now, I thought a simple e-mail would end this, nope.
I am going to take advise from many on this thread and just ignore any correspondence from R&C and not re-new my sub.

Got the auto paint and body dvd from them, haven't even opened the dvd but just toss the bills like other junk mail. They can't charge you for something they send unsolicited and they know it, but want to bully people into paying. I do the same thing with the "extend sub now" mailings.

I had this happen from the NRA, they sent me a video that I did not order with the sama type of instructions... keep it and send money, or send it back. I didn't send it back, didn't watch it and got some bills which I ignored. I have never received another thing from them. Like others have said, you didn't ask for it you don't have to pay for it.

Sending them e-mail was a big mistake. Now they have your e-mail address and home address. Get ready for the flood of spam along with the junk snail mail........

I figured out the absolute best way to get off the "Fraternal Order of Police" begging roster. I got a call just after I filed for divorce, and my ex was dating/living with/engaged to (and wound up marrying) one of Tulsa County's Finest. This is a rough BUT TRUE transcript of the actual phone call:

FOP guy: Sir, we represent the FOP and would like a donation.
ME: I think I've already given more than enough.
FOP guy: Sir, I don't see any record of that donation anywhere.
ME: Check the courthouse. My soon-to-be-ex-wife is currently dating one of your Deputies.
FOP guy: I'm sorry to hear that sir, but unfortunately that doesn't do us any good.
ME: It does me no good either. I've already given you guys my wife, what more do you want?
    FOP guy: But... but... but....
    ME: Click

That got me no more phone calls for the last 5 years![/quote]

Lol...the only thing missing from that exchange is this...."And you can Keep her Bitch ass!" right before the click..

I get those FOP calls every now and than..Ive always told them they cant be cops because they are not allowed to solicit in michigan, and if he was a cop Im not paying him to be on the phone begging people for money get out there and do your dam job and catcha crook or a politician or something like that..and besides that last 10 over ticket i got as far as i see it payed me up until the next one..so as i see it your request is falling on deaf ears..good day sir....click.
