i have had a few engines that have sat knock when started and it ended up being a piece of carbon in the combustion chamber just ran water through the carb while running and it broke down the carbon

  2. High flow oil pump?
    Aftermarket oil pan?
Could the pickup not be sitting low enough and under higher rpm starving the engine or cavitating the oil ?

    new fly wheel?
    Manual trans?
    Pilot bearing or bushing installed?

    new balancer?
    Pressed on all the way?

did you run the engine before replacing these parts ?

    buy a stethoscope!!!!!

I had a knock a couple years ago as you describe, quiet at idle, loud as revs increase. I figured it was a rod, just know the noise, deep, hard knock. Pulled the pan, one spun rod bearing.

So yes, to answer your question, a rod knock can be quiet at idle.

I don’t have coolant in it yet. So as it warmed up a little bit. Not directly from start.
I can’t post a video in here. I’m going to try and dig more probably this weekend.
